Update: Yesterday in SFO, a part of the world that really doesn't look too highly upon firearms, I found I could buy Guns and Ammo magazine in the store closest to the entrance of the SFO UC. So SFO deems it safe post security to read a magazine about firearms but United Airlines and a good chunk of the FlyerTalk readers are freaked out about it.
I wonder if they will ban employees of the firearm industry from coming in next!

I prefer banning nervous nellies and nosey people from flying...I predict a much better flying experience for everyone if people with such views just stayed home.

My twenty something son notes that recently UA decided to block many online games but continues to allow streaming video. Given the almost unusable WiFi at EWR on Sunday where many guests were streaming video it seems odd that lower bandwidth video games are blocked.

Probably because they have guns in them and UA and many of this website think that is scary. I am ready for Jeffy to have an up-sell charge to visit banned websites.

Yeah, if games like Call of Duty are blocked, I suspect it's for the content, not the bandwidth.

Gun users and porn watchers are "over-entitled"...hence the block

Update: Cabelas (based in Sidney Nebraska) must have a contract with UA as their website is not blocked in the United Club and I was able to peruse and make purchases from their fine selection yesterday in the club.

United Club and The Second Amendment (Amendment II)

So, I was sitting in the Houston United Club killing some time and decided to read a fire arm article I received an email about. I was surprised that the site was blocked because the website was against Company policy and that I was "Not allowed to browse Weapons/Bombs category - Website blocked."

So, I started doing a little testing and about 90% of the gun related websites I knew of were blocked. I have checked the sites in the B, C and E terminal clubs with the same results. I then tested the same websites at other airports and/or other clubs (Midland/Odessa, Delta Club in New Orleans and United Club in London Heathrow...) and none of the sites were blocked.

So what is so special with Houston and the blocking of gun related websites? I don't like censorship and I hate the idea of PAYING to be censored!

You're dealing with an airline who has pathetically scared staff - recall the incident pre-merger where a FA freaked out and threatened a passenger who had computer wallpaper with a photo of a 757 taking off. With a culture like that, this is no surprise.

It must have started before that, because the story is highly ambiguous and no one but the people who were there know what really happened. Whom you give the benefit of the doubt depends on your preexisting attitudes.

Funny how they have these restrictions, yet I have been able to torrent no problem in the UC
(other than the very slow speed...)
