UA Press Release dated October 14 2015.

Oct 25: PS menus get upgraded and look delicious
Nov 1: Domestic first flights between 1:30 and 3:59pm that are more than 3 hours get lunch
Nov 1: Hawaii and transcon redeyes get dinner service

Beginning Nov. 1, the airline will refresh lunch and dinner choices for United First and United Business customers on flights throughout the U.S. and Canada, and to Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America leisure markets.

United-operated flights that currently offer meal service will addnew dishes, like Spanish paella, mushroom risotto and seafood cioppino on shorter dinner flights.

Meal window expansion

The carrier will also expand meals to:

Lunch flights longer than three hours, departing between 1:30 and 3:59 p.m., which will offer options that include seasonal entree salads like a Napa salad with grilled salmon, goat cheese and fig and an arugula salad with Milanese-style chicken; and

Late-night flights between Hawaii and Houston, Chicago, New York/Newark and Washington, which will offer full dinner service with new entrees, such as hoisin short ribs with wasabi grits and stir-fried vegetables.

Late-night non-p.s. transcontinental flights and service between Hawaii and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver, as well as other late-departing flights of at least five hours and 20 minutes, will offer hearty sandwiches after takeoff, such as a pretzel burger with bleu cheese dressing, arugula and pickled onions, followed by warmed pastries before arrival.

United will continue to offer its p.s. made-to-order sundaes for dessert, followed by bake-on-board cookies prior to arrival.

These latest upgrades come in addition to those we made October 25 to premium-cabin dining on our p.s. Premium Service.

For a more in-depth look at the investment we’re making in our food, UnitedAirtime.com now includes insightful foodie stories and a new video about why we want the food we serve to be exciting and interesting – something we’re working on in partnership with The Trotter Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and inspiring new generations of culinary minds.

Here are some highlights of menu changes on flights within the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and leisure markets in Mexico; which will be reflected beginning November 2 on our united.com North America premium-cabin dining page and Choice Menu page:

p.s. Premium Service enhancements beginning October 25:

Premium-cabin dining changes beginning November 1:
-New seasonal entrée salads with refreshed protein component served on the side
-New side salads and transcon/Hawaii starter salads
-The United Business cabin on three-cabin aircraft will offer all entrée choices served in the United First cabin
-United Express two-cabin regional jet service will also offer new premium-cabin lunch, dinner and snacks, and expanded lunch meal service to flights longer than three hours
Choice Menu Bistro on Board changes beginning November 1

We hope many of you have the opportunity to experience these new dining options and we look forward to hearing from you.

Because it's the cheapest dessert. I almost invariably save the calories for booze, though.

I just realized I'm being overly negative on this thread. I'm legitimately happy about these changes and impressed with UA's ability to continue to be just barely good enough for me to not jump ship to AA.

This is basically bringing United closer to Delta's offering. And American.
Nice to see the cookies back on ps.

What makes a snack mix "premium?" Is it the cursive script on the packaging or the sesame sticks?

                  The world may never know.

If it says "premium" or "gourmet" on the packaging it must be!!

Isn't this more or less UA just making more noise about the earlier announcement last Fall? Unless I am missing something I don't really see anything additional here except a few very minute and insignificant details.

It is actually significantly more extensive than the August 2014 announcement. See below and compare:

                  • New short and mid-haul salads and sandwiches: Between August and September we are introducing all-new gourmet salads and sandwiches, which will be served chilled or warmed depending on flight distance and departure time. These new meals will be offered during lunch and dinner times on flights between 900 and 1,299 miles, and during lunch time on flights between 1,300 and 2,299 miles. Prior to your meal we will continue to offer our signature warmed nuts with a beverage of your choice. All freshly prepared salad and sandwich entrees will be paired with a gluten-free soup, bread, and a warmed cookie for dessert.
                  • Sparkling wine in North America: Beginning this fall, we will introduce Prosecco sparkling wine in our North America mainline premium cabins.
                  • Refresh for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack flights: Through 2015 we will be changing the menus for remaining markets.
                  • Expansion of meals to shorter-haul flights: Stay tuned for more information as we will be reintroducing full meal service on additional shorter haul flights during meal times. We will continue to offer full meals on flights that currently receive a full meal service in the following markets which are less than 900 miles: Chicago to/from Boston, Denver, New York/La Guardia and Newark, Denver to/from Houston Intercontinental and Los Angeles, and Newark to/from Atlanta (effective November 2014).
                  • Increased menu variety: We will be increasing the frequency of menu changes so that you see new options more often.

                  United Express premium cabins:
                  • Significant improvements on the way: While we can’t share the full details yet, let’s just say there will be a nice upgrade to premium cabin dining on United Express in 2015 by introducing fresh meal options.

United Economy on long-haul international flights:
                  • Enhanced food and beverage options in 2015: More details to come, but we’ll also be improving the food and beverage experience in United Economy on long-haul international flights as well.
                  with today:

                  • More flights with meals: Flights of at least 800 miles will be catered with a full meal in United First® and United Business® during meal times.
                  • All-new menus: We’ve taken inspiration from our hub cities and popular destinations to create entirely new and fresh entrée selections with more of the flavors and ingredients customers have been telling us they want. Some examples include:
                    • Southwestern Houston-style skillet with cage-free scrambled eggs, pepper jack cheese, sautéed pepper mix, sliced New Mexico sausage, potato gratin, and fire-roasted pepper sauce
                    • Lobster Macaroni and Cheese with baked crumb topping and a side of broccoli rabe
                    • Shanghai vegetable noodles with vegetable gyoza
                  • Greater menu variety: We’ve significantly increased the number of menu selections in our new program throughout the day.
                  • Three entrée choices on longer mid-cons: On flights with a scheduled length of four hours to five hours and 19 minutes, the number of entrée choices is increasing from two to three, with one entrée choice continuing to be vegetarian.
                  • Expanded multi-course meal service on transcontinental and Hawaii flights: Transcontinental and Hawaii flights will feature heartier multi-course meals.
                  • Refreshed breakfast breads, snacks, side salads, bake-on-board cookies, and desserts: Beyond our entirely new entrée selections, we are complementing our reimagined premium cabin dining experience with all-new breakfast breads, 25 new premium snacks that will rotate in our snack baskets with fresh fruit where offered, improved side salads on lunch and dinner flights, new signature bake-on-board cookie flavors crafted exclusively for United by Otis Spunkmeyer®, and the introduction of sorbet and gelato or ice cream dessert courses on longer flights.

To give you a better idea of what to expect on different mainline United flights after these changes, here is a quick summary of the new North America premium cabin dining program with additional details available on united.com beginning January 23:
                  • Less than 199 miles: Beverage service with premium biscotti on morning flights or premium snack mix on afternoon/evening flights.
                  • 200 to 799 miles: Light breakfast refreshments (such as scones, muffins, or pound cake) on morning flights or a selection of premium snacks and fresh fruit on flights departing after 10:00am.
                    • Note that flights from Chicago O’Hare to/from Hartford, New York LaGuardia, Newark, and from Newark to/from Atlanta will receive full meals when scheduled during traditional meal times.
                  • 800 to 1,499 miles: Full meal service including 2 entrée choices on most flights departing between 5:00am and 8:00pm. Lunch service will consist of a choice of a protein salad served with soup or premium sandwich paired with a side salad, and dinner service will consist of 2 hot entrée choices served with a side salad. On flights departing between 1:30pm and 3:59pm, and all flights departing after 8:01pm, a selection of premium snacks and fresh fruit will be offered.
                  • 1,500 to 2,299 miles: Full meal service on flights departing between 5:00am and 9:00pm, including 3 entrée choices, with sorbet dessert and mint leaf on lunch flights, and gelato or ice cream with choice of toppings for dessert on dinner flights. On flights departing after 9:01pm, a selection of premium snacks and fresh fruit will be offered.
                  • Longer than 2,300 miles: Transcontinental and Hawaii flights will offer a full multi-course meal service with 3 entrée choices on flights departing before 9:00pm, a mid-flight snack selection of premium packaged snacks and fresh fruit on longer-haul Hawaii flights, and a pre-arrival refreshment or snack on all flights.
                  • p.s. Premium Service (New York JFK to/from Los Angeles and San Francisco): International quality multi-course meals with 3 entrée choices topped off by our signature ice cream sundae on lunch or dinner flights, with a pre-arrival refreshment service of bake-on-board cookies for afternoon or evening arrivals, and breakfast breads on morning arrivals.
Which are the "minute" and "insiginificant" details? I think there are some substantial changes, including an 800-mile meal radius and long overdue upgrades to transcon/Hawaii catering.

I guess but to me it seems like repeating much of the same "more details to come".

Anyway good to see UA improving. I hope Hector & Co at Centreport are taking note.

?? Unclear if breakfasts and lunches and light meals will include anything vegetarian (my last domestic and international flights did not have anything I could eat). Looks like dinner will maintain a veg entre option, and am happy to see veg dinner options improved.

Certainly looks positive but we'll see if this is really a change or not. Will have to fly domestically after 2/1

I hope the ice cream sundae does not disappear on the Hawaii flights, to be replaced by just the pre-arrival cookie. I find it strange they note the ice cream on p.s. flights, but not Hawaii flights. Strange, ice cream is mentioned on flights 1500-2299 miles, but not on 2300+ miles. Hopefully, an oversight.

As you can all tell, I want my sundaes....
