The Fleet Status site is:
https://sites.google.com/site/unitedfleetsite/
At the site, you can find information about the interior features, livery, etc., for every plane in United's fleet.
To determine which plane your flight will be on go to mobile.united.com and then click on flight status. Put in the flight number for your flight and just have it use today's date (occasionally it'll say flight not operated on this date in which case just choose one of the other 3 dates it lists). In the address bar you'll see something like this:
mobile.united.com/FlightStatus/FlightDetails?carrierCode=UA&flightNumber=1647&fli ghtDate=11%2F30%2F2015&origin=EWR&destination=SFO
https://mobile.united.com/FlightStat...estination=SFO
Just change the flight date to match the day of your scheduled flight and then change the origin / destination as necessary. Once you do that look in the details tab under aircraft # and if they have assigned a plane it'll say something like #3506 and the type of plane. Once you know that go to the United Fleet website listed above and cross-reference the four digit number against the "aircraft" column under the appropriate aircraft type.
Keep in mind that things change as they get closer and sometimes either they won't have assigned an aircraft yet or it'll be assigned #0 if it's a few days away and they are anticipating aircraft movement.
You may also check the specific fleet variant of each flight at the United Cargo site under "Schedules & tracking". This data tends to be reliable starting 7 days in advance, but is always subject to change.

The wiki says 77A = 6 of the 9 Hawaiian birds, ship #s 2510-2515. Those are currently 32BF/312Y, so not quite as dramatic as 50 to 28. Still, 3-4-3 is pretty yucky.
Are they really only doing 6 of the 9? Or will they do the 77Cs as well?

747 replacements? That's interesting. I seem to recall UA saying they weren't interested in "old" technology.

My thinking is that UAL doesn't want to wait until 2018 to start drawing down the 747 fleet, and there is no viable replacement in the current fleet at the top of the market unitl the A350-1000s come around. They can probably get 77Ws on property within a year or so and start retiring 744s sooner. Routes like ORD-HKG or LAX/SFO-SYD probably can justify larger airplanes than 772s, but a step back to the antiquated economy class product or poor dispatch reliability of the 747 is not in the cards.
I'm not sure this necessarily portends a cancellation of the A350 order and replacement with 77X either, as there is substantial commonality between the GE90 777s already in the fleet.
I wonder if the new 77G configuration will go with flat beds in J. There doesn't seem to be much reason to reduce the number of seats in the F cabin, especially because the difference between the 9-abreast seat count and 10-abreast in Y is roughly the same as the number of rows of Y in the airplane, at least the ones that would probably be gaining seats.

77Y is the code for the sCO 772s. 77A is the code for the sUA base model 777s the 9 Hawaiian birds and the few in 3-cabin configuration used on shorter runs ie EWR - FRA, IAD - LHR etc.

Just speculating, of course, but it does not seem too far-fetched that UA might consider a high-density 777 configuration for European/South America markets to alternate between the respective summer seasons in each hemisphere.

Because it seems more than just the Hawaii fleet would get the prospective mod (including A-market 777s in 3-cabin configurations).

The idea of lie-flats does make a certain amount of sense from a fleet utilization standpoint because the 77A birds could be used in international markets in addition to ex-Hawaii routes.
It's a different market, but doesn't one of the mideast superhub carriers run a configuration with top F/J and 10-across Y?
I have to say that the old F seats on the Hawaii 777s are pretty hard for older people to manipulate. I was sitting next to an elderly woman and the FA came by and helped her whenever she needed to reconfigure her seat. I did so a few times but the FA was *very* solicitous and on top of her needs. That said they are much better than domestic F seats so I'd be sorry to see things go that way if they do.
Maybe the mods could move this 77A reconfig to a separate thread

That would leave 10 across in the back. To provide a premium Business product, maybe more galley sapce is needed and woujld cut into the 10 across gain. It appears there are way more rows to pick up just 24 seats in Y, but some rows won't take 10 across due to exits and lavs.
That would leave a high density 772A with true premium product and I agree the aircraft could be used to heavy leisure coach markets TATL and South America as well as Hawaii, GUM/HNL/NRT and HNL-NRT. This configuration could also make HNL-AKL and might make HNL-SYD depending on wind components vs. the 800 mile shorter ORD-HNL route. A 19 unit common 772A fleet would be easier to maintain and schedule.
