UA 922 on 8/29 suffered almost 10 hour delay. The EWR to LHR morning flight became a night flight yet again. This seems to be a fairly common occurrence. UA web site says reason is delayed inbound flight, but I don't buy that - inbound arrived 39 minutes early (which was still hours after 922 was scheduled to depart).

I'm assuming you are talking UA922 departing on August 28th, not the 29th. Today's flight left on time (ish) and is en-route.

The delayed flight was originally supposed to use aircraft N647UA. N647UA must have a mechanical issue because according to flightaware it's been at EWR with the 24th. It was swapped to N646UA which is why the flight status shows the "inbound" flight arriving early but after the original departure time.

United's flights to London cannot land after 23:30. If this flight is delayed and cannot arrive prior to the night curfew it has to wait, hence the long delay. N646UA arrived into EWR at 13:36 which was to late to depart and arrive before the curfew.

UA116 31AUG HKG-EWR (B772, ship 3016) squawked 7700 at some point shortly after departure from HKG. not sure what happened; flight seems to be proceeding as normal at this point. UA's longest flight.

Anyone ever here more about this?

PAX reports that police were in the front of the plane as they unloaded ine EWR. Emergency vehicles were lining the runway during the landing.

8/31 UA 902 FRA-SFO (N104UA) looks like it returned to gate at 1400 for maintenance. Finally departed FRA at 1703, but looks like it had to divert to ORD where it arrived at 1845. Suppose to continue onto to SFO with estimated departure at 1930 and estimated arrival at 2142. Guess this should qualify for EU261 for those that seek compensation

8/31 UA 7 IAH-NRT (N78017) departed IAH at 1639, 5 hours 49 minutes late due to late inbound aircraft and estimated to arrive at 1941, 5 hours 11 minute late. The inbound was 8/31 UA 6 NRT-IAH which arrived 20 minutes early at 1425. My guess is there was an aircraft swap. 9/1 UA 78 NRT-EWR now is estimated to leave at 2030, 3 hours 30 minutes late since they will use this frame.

902 is enroute to SFO now, and should be in around 9:30 local.

117/1Sep

Friend of mine is on 117 EWR-HKG today. Left gate about 40 mins late due to maintenance. Taxied for takeoff and now they are returning to gate. They are now 1 hour and 45 mins beyond scheduled departure time. Anybody know how much cushion they have before crew timeout?

Left for the 2nd time with a 3 hour delay.

SFO-KIX canceled.
GRU-IAH canceled.
922 EWR to LHR 9 hours delay.
Many other 1+ hr delays.

922 for 9/1 also crapped out. Didn't depart until almost 7pm, just getting into LHR now (about 6:30am NEXT DAY, for the poor saps on the flight).

I have to wonder if 922 is even worth gambling on any more. If I had important business in London early AM there's no way I would trust that flight to get me in the night before.

[edit] sorry, didn't see it posted on the list in the post above.

UA's "morning" 922 from EWR to LHR is very unreliable. This flight experiences massive delays if there are any MX or other issues. I believe the reason is that they can't land in LHR after 11:30/midnight, which essentially forces the delay to be significant.

The simple solution to this problem would be to schedule departure from EWR one hour earlier. The aircraft sits there overnight anyway, and this could provide enough time to fix it before the LHR curfew kicks in.
