Pre-Lunch Meet-Up & Station Tour:

UPDATE: The tour is now closed. As names needed to be provided in advanced to the United team at LAX, there is no waitlist available.

There will be a special United Club meet-up and LAX Station/Operations Tour that will take place after Flight UA441 lands and before lunch.

Start Time:
10:00AM

NOTE: As this may be space constrained, priority will be given to those who are flying on UA441 and those who attend the luncheon. After that, it will be first come, first served basis. You are not confirmed unless you receive an e-mail confirming your attendance. Hopefully these will go out NLT COB Thursday.

Luncheon:

UPDATE: Lunch is now full. If you would like to be added to a waitlist, please update your username below.

The luncheon will be held at the Daily Grill Century Blvd, which is easily accessible by the Westin LAX courtesy shuttle.

Location:
Daily Grill Century Blvd
5400 West Century Boulevard
Los Angeles, California 90045

Start Time:
12:30PM

Because of our “large” party status, we are classified as a “private party” and have a fixed menu. You will have a choice of Entree, Dessert, and a non-alcoholic beverage (house brewed ice tea, regular/decaf coffee, or soft drink). There will be a full cash bar available.

The cost for lunch will be $30.00 per person (inclusive of service and tax; exclusive of alcohol). Payment can be made via PayPal/CC in advance (by NLT 12:00PM Friday) or cash-only day-of-event for those who were already confirmed for lunch. For those of you attending the tour and intending to pay by cash, this will be collected prior to the tour starting. See e-mail that was sent out for more information.

NOTE: You will order at the restaurant. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let AndrewT84 know in advance so we can coordinate accordingly. Gluten Free options are available and designated by the GF below.

NOTE 2: I have checked with both the Events Manager and Westin Manager, independently, and both have stated that since the Daily Grill is neither owned nor operated by Starwood, no F&B SPG points can be earned unless charged to a guest room folio. As there will be one bill (i.e., no split checks), please pay by PayPal/CC if you want to ensure points for your lunch.

Entrees

Blackened Chicken Kale Caesar Salad (GF)
A mixture of romaine and kale, parmesan cheese and optional croutons, tossed in our caesar dressing. Topped with a blackened grilled chicken breast.

Bacon Avocado Burger
8 oz. certified angus beef with cheddar cheese, bacon, sliced avocado, thousand island, lettuce, tomato, and sliced red onion. Served with french fries.

Herb Chicken Caprese (GF)
Grilled herb chicken breast served with fresh mozzarella, vine ripened tomatoes, arugula, and a balsamic glaze.

Dessert

Freshly Baked Cookies and Brownies
For each table to share

Arrow Fly with Capt Denny JFK-LAX on FlyerTalk 3: January 17, 2015 plus LAX Ops Tour

UPDATE January 12 United Airlines has graciously arranged for a Tour of its LAX operation. After the flight, FlyerTalk 3 passengers will meet at Gate 72 (check your emails for logistics) at 10:00AM [/B]

The tour sign up is now closed.

Capt Denny has been looking to schedule FlyerTalk 3 for a while. We searched his schedule for a light load flight with low fare buckets and found one Saturday, January 17th:

UA 441 JFK-LAX

It leaves bright and early at 6:00am!

FlyerTalk 1 and FlyerTalk 2 were well attended and memorable.

Fortune published an article about Captain Denny yesterday.

Please join Captain Denny for a transcon flight with Channel 9 and a group of fellow FTers.

If you are coming, please post below or in the wiki after you have booked your ticket and please include your seat information..

I wish it was a mid con instead. Flying ORD-LGA-JFK-LAX-ORD is too much.

If someone in the LA area would like to volunteer to organize a restaurant for a group lunch after arrival, please PM me.
That is so cool! I'll just have finished driving (by car, not plane) half way across the country the week before. Better look and see how flexible my schedule is...

I would like to do this as I had a lot of fun during the Capt. Denny DO at PDX so many years ago.

Unfortunately, with the cut backs at JFK, that is one tough place to get in and out of on United, especially for a 6AM flight.

I hope those able to make it have a great time....

Just booked 22C. Looking forward to some good conversation. Hoping to upgrade to the pointy end. Starting my mileage running early this year. Haven't figured out how to get to JFK for 06:00.

Edit UG cleared I am now 4F.
Edit correction 4B.

I just bought a ticket for JFK-LAX-SFO (with the latter segment departing at 1510, so enough time for lunch). Seat 1B on 441.

Now, I also need to come from SFO the night before. That's proving more difficult to do if I still want to make a 6am departure . I'll probably book the one that arrives at 1am, but that's not much time for sleep

Hmm what do you think the chances of an RPU clearing on this flight are for an AC*G? I just realized my GS friend has a bunch of expiring RPUs, and if I can save $700...

I have zero experience with United upgrades.

I expect that we will both find out. I have dropped a UA RPU on this as a 1K.

Well right now I'm booked on a P fare, so I'm confirmed up front. I'm just wondering if it would be a reasonable move to cancel within 24 hours, book a lower fare, and use a RPU/GPU.

i would probably stick with your P fare if you want to be up front. i'm seeing all 0s for current availability in expert mode, typical for p.s. flights up to the day of departure.

even with the extra BF seats on the p.s. aircraft and the 6am saturday departure times, past denny DOs have had tremendous attendance - p.s. BF is one of the [nearly] universally loved UA products, so i suspect many of us will want to be up front.

i've award waitlisted for IN space, but i doubt it clears. does anyone know what happens if UA441 doesn't clear, but the two remaining waitlisted (shorter) flights on my one-way award do clear? i don't want to burn the miles unless p.s. clears. i'm a novice at this, so any advice would be appreciated.

You can call reservations and have them remove the upgrade request on the shorter flights. If your upgrade clears on the ps segment, you can call back and have them add those back into the upgrade queue.

Just rechecked my seating. What was I thinking? I haven't been this far back on a B757 since my last voluntary US FLT (2003 - last row). I sure hope this is a one off thing!

Wow things are different with PS FLT. I have not seen e-mails before telling me that my "request" for UG has been accepted before.

UG cleared. Looks like at least from the start this year is going to be better.
