They can't for sure. However, data is powerful. If they wanted to use all the data they have and if they have decent analysis software/analysts, they could probably do a decent projection at the time you crossed the threshold based on date you earned the status, current mileage, future travel booked and your booking history to indicate how likely you might be to book more travel and how much more you are likely to book. And potentially other info. Whether their software is good enough to do that, and even if it is, if they made the effort to project like this, is a different question.

However, even with that, your benefits are supposed to begin once you cross the threshold (some other carriers, like AC, make you wait until the end of the year). So for example, I hit plat with a flight on Nov. 26, I think my mileage from the flight posted on the 28, and my RPUs went into my account on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1. I can use those immediately if I want. Theoretically, I should also get the drink chits to use. And then if i were to cross to 1k (I won't), I would be entitled to those benefits as well - more drink chits, GPUs, more RPUs, etc. So there's no reason why they shouldn't send it once I've made that status.

Its even more important for golds, as they get lounge access with the new status, and some lounges require the card. So if a silver does a lot of travel one year, and hits gold in say, Sept., they shouldn't have to wait until Jan. to receive their card. They should get it as soon as possible after they make the status.

I received my Platinum kit last week, days after I qualified for 1K. I guess that means I'll get more drink coupons when the 1K kit arrives.

What was the card's expiration? Jan 2015 or Jan 2016?

Website says "Your Premier Gold membership materials are being processed. Please check back for updates on shipping." Checked the mail today and my kit (expiring 1/31/2016) was already there...

Received my 2015 kit a couple weeks ago when I qualified for 1K at the end of October (is/was Platinum this year).

Packet came in today. Here is what the 1K included:
  • 1K Card
  • 2 Mini 1K Luggage Tags
  • 2 Luggage Tag Straps
  • 1K book, outlining "new" things for 1K in 2015 (really just the 11 miles & Hertz)
  • Mercedes Benz Ad
  • 10 drink chits
  • 1K Calling Guide

One difference: On the drink chits, it now says Not redeemable on premium red and white wine vs. not redeemable on premium beverages for 2014. Also, the 2015 coupons are slightly larger than 2014. Wonder if that will mean we can't use the expired ones in 2015. Both years have the barcode

Just noticed another difference with the "mini" luggage tags - no longer personalized. Which is kinda dumb.

Comparison of old to new:

I actually prefer the non-personalized luggage tags. I don't need everyone in an airport reading my name.

I re-qualified for 1K around June but still haven't received my new credentials. The new website shows my kit has shipped and should arrive in 4-6 weeks. Really? Shipping takes 4-6 weeks? I don't think so.

Not in a rush. I'm done flying UA for the year. Have one flight left and it's a DL award ticket.
