Yea, the schedule shows 1057 EM2 flights this month, 125 next month, and 0 in June. After that there are 2-5k/mo, as placeholders until they decide what to do.

This is a consistent timeframe with UA's use of 738/320 in distant schedules, and deciding 737/738/739 and 319/320 a couple months out.

Also consider that they are also (speculative of course) not meeting the extended mandate here: http://www.regulations.gov/#!documen...1997-2649-0061

I've never seen it happen before (granted I don't pay a ton of attention to EAS), but I know the only real recourse is a lawsuit. EAS mostly operates like a contract, with the government paying money to subsidize the service. However, it's a little different from a standard contract in that the DOT (and the DOT alone) can extend the term of the contract unilaterally while they work to replace a carrier that wants out (a la OO). Therefore any violation of this would look more like a breach-of-contract case than a simple case of regulation.

Now, if the DOT were to be allowed to make EAS-compliance a condition of the various other things they license I'm sure it would be a different story.

ETA: a cursory googling seems to indicate the DOT sued NW and its regional carries back in 1998 over the discontinuation of 13 EAS routes... most links were paywalled however, so I quickly lost interest in what actually happened.

It actually happens with some regularity and the DOT does little to the offending carriers. If the DOT sued each time a carrier were forced to operate a money-losing EAS route no one would bid on them.

The last EM120 flown for UAX operates on 5th May, 2015. After that there will be no route with an EM120 flying. Anything else is just a placeholder in the schedule.

Thank you for that info! ^

I also learned that in SAN, the commuter terminal operations will move over to Terminal 2 this summer, which will be nice. I am watching that many of the placeholder flights you referrenced are still in the system for the later part of the summer and beyond. For that reason, it seems to be holding up award space too.

United/Skywest EMB-120 farewell

I thought I'd get this rolling as in the next few days I believe a familiar and iconic sight will disappear from American skies with the retirement of Skywest's final Embraer Brasilia after decades of reliable service. I watched the video that has surfaced of the final flight out of Carlsbad, CA. Does anybody have any idea when the very last service is ? It really will be a sad, sad day. It's just a shame they didn't invest in another prop like brand new ATR 42s so they could continue to service numerous markets not to mention keeping up frequencies on routes into FAT, SAN etc.

Last flight is UA5165 SMX to LAX on May 5th. Most routes have already switched to CR2s or CR7s.

And so the little EM2 legend ends... so sad. I'll really miss these birds.

Almost tempting enough to burn a 10k award, except that my work week is already overstuffed

Sitting in UC at SFO watching N291SW get pushed back for UA5197. Currently shown as not in service on fleet site but I suppose it's done soon. Took maybe my last shot of an EM120.

Sorry that was my fault it was listed as removed from service a little early. What you saw, UA5197, was that birds last revenue flight.

Where are the EMB's going to? Are they being scrapped, or do they have a buyer?
