United's Hawaii Services/Flights are Unreliable
With a mix of sUA and sCo crews and airplanes
I am finding SFO-Hawaiian Islands flights so unreliable
Constant 3 plus hour delays on what was a routinely
ontime service
What gives?
This makes codeshare connections to HA interisland a
real pain

They were having issues into LIH Nov/Dec 2013
there were substantial delays on at least 4 days I checked, including the day before our flight SFO-LIH, the day after we arrived, and the two days before our return to SFO. They seemed to typically be about 3 hours and the solution was an airplane swap in SFO each time.
I was actually hoping our flights would get hit, since at least some of the substitutions were PS planes and we were in first, but we arrived and left on time. Kinda a mixed blessing :-)
I haven't paid attention since then so I don't know if the problems were continuing.
I believe there is a small set of 757s used solely for SFO - LIH and return, and a few other SFO-Hawaii flights, so if one of those goes mechanical its a problem. I don't know if the actual configuration is different, if its a matter of certifications, or just tradition :-)

Yeah. For OP to extrapolate his experiences to all Hawaii service is ludicrous. Service out of LAX is quite more reliable than SFO, mostly weather-related. I've flown probably 30 segments between West Coast and Hawaii since 1/1/13, with only 2 multi-hour delays. Those were last summer, one each ex-LAX,OGG. Probably 6-8 were to/from SFO, all basically on time. I do see delays on other flights, so maybe OP just has bad luck and I have good luck.

For the past 60+ flights, 77% on time but when late, an average of 71 minutes and 13% of flights were excessively late

from 5am arrivals until 9am and 11am departures
the 430pm 764 aircraft has horrible on time performance lately
and makes it hard to plan inter island connections
ual 300 has a 64 percent on time rating sfo hnl
for example

1/26 the 73 went into rolling delays and finally CXed then they subed in a 753 inbounding from KOA. Left over 5 hrs late. PMCO plane
Today again a SFO-HNL flight had a 5 hr delay PMUA plane
I think the problems are with the 777s and 764s so KOA,LIH, OGG doesnt get hit with the delays
