The Fleet Status site is:

At the site, you can find information about the interior features, livery, etc., for every plane in United's fleet.
To determine which plane your flight will be on go to mobile.united.com and then click on flight status. Put in the flight number for your flight and just have it use today's date (occasionally it'll say flight not operated on this date in which case just choose one of the other 3 dates it lists). In the address bar you'll see something like this:

Just change the flight date to match the day of your scheduled flight and then change the origin / destination as necessary. Once you do that look in the details tab under aircraft # and if they have assigned a plane it'll say something like #3506 and the type of plane. Once you know that go to the United Fleet website listed above and cross-reference the four digit number against the "aircraft" column under the appropriate aircraft type.
Keep in mind that things change as they get closer and sometimes either they won't have assigned an aircraft yet or it'll be assigned #0 if it's a few days away and they are anticipating aircraft movement.
You may also check the specific fleet variant of each flight at the United Cargo site under "Schedules & tracking". This data tends to be reliable starting 7 days in advance, but is always subject to change.

Tomorrow I'm flying in F SEA-LAX on UA1654.. a 738, aircraft #3275 (as a side note..what a pleasure to be scheduled on a mainline flight SEA-LAX..makes me nostalgic for the good old days).
Anyway.. yesterday when I checked the flight status it showed the flight had Wifi and DirecTV (which I love) and power ports. But when I check today it now says wifi is available with personal entertainment coming soon, but no DirecTV and no power ports. I'm *pretty* sure the aircraft number was 3275 when I looked at it yesterday, but I'm not 100% certain. I am certain it was a 737-800.
When I check the UA fleet website here (under the 737-8 tab): https://sites.google.com/site/united...fleet-tracking it says that #3275 has DirecTV and Wifi.
I realize that site isn't official, but I've found it to be very well maintained. And in fact, this particular aircraft is noted in the Nov 14-17th update "N73275 exited INT 2140/15Nov, slimline,DTV,Scimitars/WiFi".
Is this a United.com glitch? Will the plane have DirecTV or not??

Wanted to add there seems to be issues with the website, as the 739ERs that are schedule to have the PDE (Personal Device Entertainment) installed no longer show that on .com, rather show "A beta version of Wi-Fi Internet access is available for purchase on this flight. Please note that Internet coverage is limited to the continental U.S."

The most recent October fleet plan shows all 767s remaining in the fleet through the end of 2014, so I would say something other than fleet exit.

Bunky, any info on the paint schedule for the last four widebodies? I'm a fan of the tulip but those last few are starting to look pretty ridiculous and old now that it's been so long since the rest of the fleet got the globe.

The last 788 has finished 3 test flights. It is scheduled for delivery to UA on Dec 17, completing the 787-8 order.
