In short, the call would be made between the pilot-in-command and the certificate holder (the dispatcher/SOCC). The 2h extension can only be made once before a rest period and only before takeoff. It also cannot result in any crewmember exceeding his/her cumulative duty limit (sliding scale under FAR 117.23). After takeoff, of course, it is at the pilot's discretion to the extent necessary for safe operations.

United flights from BOM - Canceled 2 days in a row?

Someone I know is flying back from Mumbai to EWR on UA49, and the flights were canceled / delayed.

I checked up on United and saw that UA48 arrived into BOM the last couple of days but never flew out. The outbound UA49 was canceled.

Today (Jan 8th) United is flying back 3 777s from BOM to EWR, pretty full with passengers. Basically the flights that were scheduled for Jan 6th and Jan 7th are flying out today.

Never seen that happen before. Anyone know what might have happened? Just curious

Sounds like they're getting the 777s ready for the SYD route routine...

Probably just due to the mess that is the airports of the US since last week. For whatever reason, the other flights got canceled and they're making up for those today. Interestingly enough, both of the additional flights get in > midnight - assuming not all folks are O/D - would suck to have to overnight before connecting onward in the US.

DEL also saw two flights back to the US yesterday, a result of Mondays DEL-EWR getting scrubbed, it looks like.

SYD will be using three cabin 777s. BOM and DEL use two cabin 777s. So, no.

Reason for YEG-Chicago flight canceled on Jan 7?

Hi All,

My GF's parents were set to fly YEG-Chicago Tuesday morning at 7:55am.

Monday morning they received an email stating the flight was cancelled.

Anyone know why?

They got rebooked for Thursday which is insane. I assume weather related issues causing equipment availability?

There have been like elevendy billion cancellations over the past week. This is like the worst weather of all time. People are getting stuck for days. JetBlue completely gave up on being an airline for a day. Chicago is one of the worst hit places. Where you been?

Almost 100% of UAX operations at ORD were cancelled 1/6, 1/7 due to weather. Not to be blunt but have you looked at the news at all lately? The entire country and most airlines were/and still are a mess.

UA1406 IAH-SNA Delayed/Diverted to LAX Jan 7, 2014

Has anyone received compensation for this issue above that occurred on January 7? The plane was stuck in the hanger and was so delayed that curfew at SNA was exceeded requiring diversion of the flight to LAX.

United/com/appreciation says "no compensation due...."

Anyone have a different result?
