3rd leg of upgraded trip - No U/G, no waitlist

Flying ATL-IAD-NRT-BKK tomorrow and booked in W to make it upgradeable. At booking, only IAD-NRT was confirmable, but I thought I had a good shot based on status.

I checked in online and do not appear on the waitlist so called 1K desk. 'There is a glitch in the system, we cannot put you on the waitlist, check with the gate at Narita.' Of course y'all can tell what will happen next - others will clear while I am in the air to NRT and 'my seat' will have gone to someone lower on the pecking order.

Good luck to them, and I do not begrudge them, but what in the world is going on?

try at ATL and IAD, airport agents have more capabilities. Also given the late clearing that is standard for upgrades, you still might have a chance to get on the list before it is too later.

Without knowing the cause of the issue it is comment on the problem.

Is that the Friday flight NRT-BKK? If so, BF booked only 32/40.

Agreed HUCA but the NRT-BKK doesn't usually open far in advance. You should be able to get on the waitlist at the NRT lounge without much problem. Worst part would be all that time from IAD-NRT just thinking about it.

I've had this happen several times (usually on NRT outbounds). More than once, the 1k desk agent has called the airport and had me (or MS CMCULP) manually added to the UG list, sometimes with instant clearing. They are always stumped by what is happening... as you are. Agree - keep calling.

Glitches continue to perplex...
