With the switch from 744 to 772, my connection time in LAX after 840 arrives has been cut by 20 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. 90 minutes enough to make my EWR flight?

I've been on that flight a lot of times coming into LAX. 1.5 hours will be *very* tight if things are running on time. Fortunately, the flight (on a 744 anyway) lands early quite often. I wouldn't bet on that though, so I'd change your flight.

That being said, if *all* of the following are true you should be OK
* The flight arrives on time (no more than 10 minutes late)
* You have global entry
* You have no checked bags, or have priority baggage
* You have priority for TSA (note that Global Entry does not get you pre-check on international --> domestic connections)

I don't believe your last point is accurate any longer. It used to be that way, but not any more since international flights are now eligible for PreCheck.

Quote from a member of the flight crew during a 4-hour boarding delay to SYD in SFO due to technical problems..."These 747s are just falling apart."

Until UA gets some A380s for the route, I'm glad to see the 777s.

I can confirm this...Had Pre-Check at SFO recently. A huge upgrade to an already great program. ^

Don't hold your breath for that. At the rate this company is going, three years from now they'll downgauge the route to 739s and fly LAX-HNL-PPT-GUM-CNS-SYD. It'll take two days and you'll sit there and like it.

But we'd finally have service to PPT on United!

Where's your "data" to support this?

Aren't you aware the 3-Class 777s had their MTOW upgraded to be almost the same as the 2-class ones?

Is the company lying when they say the 3-class 777 represents the optimal aircraft for this route?

Do you mean the A350s that UA has on order?

We don't use UA metal to fly to SYD.

Nope. Just hoping eventually one double decker will get switched out for another. And I'm not holding my breath. I'm just glad we're having newer equipment on the route.

UA getting an A380? That chances of that happening are very slim ... upper management has repeatedly said they don't prefer the big planes like the A380 such as here:

http://www.nycaviation.com/2012/07/u...g-airbus-jets/

If anything, if they need more capacity, they will stick a A350-1000 or 787-10 on it.

If they could figure out how to fly a CRJ200 to SYD they would do it.

PMUA 772 had been using on ORD-HKG since the end of March, ORD-HKG is longer than both SFO-SYD and LAX-SYD, so you know if it can work or not.
ORDnHKG is online now
