I can't understand why ORD-NRT is back to a 744 but not ORD-HKG.

NH will have 2x 77W daily for ORD-NRT starting Septmeber, so it is totally unnecessary for UA to add more capacity for the route.

I'm 1 for 4 this year with 747s so I'd rather we had acceptable Y in a 777 than a forlorn hope for C in a 747. What concerns me most, though, is capacity - it has been pretty well full all summr with 2x747.

[Confirmed] SYD going UA 3 Cabin 777 in 2014

I'm still a little confused by this (but generally happy with the swap) - every SYD flight bar one I've been on this year - about 15 - have been packed. They've asked for volunteers probably 1/4 of those flights and I've even been stuck in E on a Y fare (as a GS). I'm curious to know if this experience reflects their data (especially on thurs/friday) Is this likely to result in an additional flight that some FTers have been hoping for, or are we just likely to see more o us stuck in Y?

Not sure if anyone has noticed the block time on the 772 ER San Francisco to Sydney is about 40 minutes longer than the 744. Remember that the 744 and 787 are two of the fastest airliners flying right now. The triple sevens are a little bit slower.

They're probably just blocking in the time needed to resolve all the complaints from GS and 1Ks not getting upgrades

When does the HNL-NRT switch back to the 777?

About the only thing I liked about flying UA to SYD a couple of times a year was that it was always in F. The 747 F class on UA was tolerable, back in the day anyway. Is the new 777 on the SYD routes going to have F, or just the crap "businessfirst"?

And if they use the 777 for SYD, why can't they bring back the LAX-AKL route?

Interesting that they deploy PMUA 772 on this route. Wasn't there a discussion that the range of PMUA 772 cannot make it without reducing the load? I think the initial guess goes towards PMCO 772 was because it has the right range.

The 777 that will be used for the SYD route will be a pre-merger UA metal, which has First Class. In fact, same seat as the 747.

You could say the same about ORD-FRA. UA will have 2 daily 1 on the 744 and LH will have 2 daily 744s

Apparently UA feels that the extra seats are needed.

Crap. I really try to avoid 747's Y at all costs. So what alternatives do I have on SIN-SFO route on 777 except TPE?

What about adding SFOBNE direct and restoring the old LAXAKLMEL ?

I am so happy hey are 3 class PMUA 777s. Coach on this plane is so much more comfortable than the 2 class PMCO 777s! It won't remind me of sitting on a park bench all the way to SYD. The 747 in coach had the best seat in terms of space and comfort, but this is better than a 2 class plane to Australia with an outdated BF and coach seat.

Happy three class cabins to SYD are staying, happy service to MEL is staying, and considering I go through FRA every couple months or so, happy ORD/FRA is going back to 747s.
