P class not eligible for Star Alliance mileage accrual prior to April 1?

My spouse and I travelled SIN-HKG-SFO in late March on paid business (P class) on UA. We are both 1K, but my spouse typically credits her miles to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer rather than United.

I chose to credit these flights to UA and the mileage posted as expected. However, my wife's flights never posted to her KF account. After a long series of inquiries with Singapore Airlines, they informed us that United's "P class," which is discounted business class, was not eligible for mileage earning prior to April 1, 2013. They claim that this is United's policy to determine which classes earn mileage, not their policy, and that Star Alliance partners have the responsibility to determine which fare classes earn miles.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems a bit silly that we could book a paid business fare and have it be non-mileage earning (especially since I was able to earn the miles when crediting to UA).

Would love some advice here. SIA refuses to pursue the matter further, as they say that this is all due to UA's own policies and categorization of P class as "non-mileage-earning" prior to April 1.

Yes, the two airlines together decide what posts to which programs. In the case of the P fares they are relatively new as mileage-earning and it took some time for all the partners to sync up their earning charts. I would not be at all surprised to learn that the April date was real with respect to when the fare was eligible to earn in SQ's program.

You should be able to credit them to another program if you want, but I doubt SQ will credit them.

UA P fares still earn no miles on A3. It's a shame, I might have actually considering buying them a couple of times.

The TK Miles&Smiles earnings charts don't appear to be available at the moment but I seem to recall people also complaining about non-earnings on UA P fares.

The TK Miles&Smiles earnings charts are once again available online. My bad, as of 01/May/2013, United P fares earn 150% in the Miles&Smiles program. ^

Earning Miles on P Fares on *A Partners

Looking into booking the following itinerary and very confused:

EWR-FRA UA968 7:20 p.m. / 9:15 a.m. (miles listed as 3,870)
FRA-MUC UA9180 (Operated by Lufthansa) 11:00 a.m. / 12:05 p.m. (miles listed as 194)
MUC-YYZ UA8553 (Operated by Air Canada) 11:50 a.m. / 2:55 p.m. (miles listed as 4,139)
YYZ-EWR UA8200 (Operated by Air Canada) 5:20 p.m. / 6:55 p.m. (miles listed as 347)

The way that I understand this, I would earn 3,870 * 1.5 = 5,805 EQMs + 500 (minimum) * 1.5 = 750 + 4,139 * 1.5 = 6,209 + 500 (minimum) * 1.5 = 750

5,805 + 750 + 6,209 + 750 = 13,514 EQMs

Is this correct? Thanks in advance for your help. It's tough to decipher what UA.com says as Air Canada P class as listed as discount economy.

Looks correct to me -- IME, if it has a UA flight number, it will credit as a UA flight.

Not true above. Miles will credit based on operating airline. Check your fare class on the Lufthansa planes.
