Change Fee Increase to $200/300

Looks like change fees are up to $200 for previous $150 markets, and up to $300 for former $250 markets. Should be interesting to see how quickly others match this one.

Any idea on when this went into effect, and applicability to tickets already issued?

Sample markets via ITA:

SFO/LHR
SFO/LAX

Change Fee Increase to $200/300

Just changed dates on 3 SQ tickets to SIN for FREE.

A big reason I booked SQ. 19 of the last 20 RTs were on UA.

Looks like the last change was $100->$150 on 19 April 2008. I guess it's a five-year cycle?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...now-150-a.html

Edit: previous change was a cycle of $75->$100 changes in early 2001? CO and DL documented on FlyerTalk in ~Jan 2001, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/conti...now-100-a.html and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...e-100-too.html

Interestingly, when it was $100 apparently it was ~negotiable for 1Ks: see a bunch of reports of it not always being assessed for 1K members at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...hange-fee.html .

check a number of domestic fares rules (on KVS) and all have change to $200 (from $150).

Given inflation of fares, this probably percentage-wise about same as the last change in 2008.

UA has to keep doing innovative things to ensure it remains last in the customer service ratings. Another great step forward in the race to the bottom.

Wow. Pathetic. Forget competing on service. UA continually takes the lead on nickel and diming its customers. It'll be interesting to see which airlines follow this (I'd imagine most legacy carriers domestically will).

it is the lack of disclosure that is so upsetting. This management only knows how to do things the dishonest backhand way. Even if you try to read the 10 page fare rules its buried. The who thing is just so "catch-ya"

While I'm sure UA will officially grandfather tickets purchased under the original fare rules, it will be hard to uphold given that change fees are often hard to dig up or a given ticket.

Yes, I'm always surprised to see the (low) change fees on some foreign carriers. For example, ex-US, CX in Y is usually $100 or $50 depending on the fare, and that's for cancellations (w/ a refund for the residual ticket value, not just a credit) in addition to changes.
