Got the "By Invitation Only" response.

"Sorry, the account number entered is not eligible for this promotion. Only select MileagePlus® members qualify to participate in the promotion.

I also received the email, which has
$1 - 1000 PQM
$999 - 2000 PQM

No way I will fork over $1K for 1K. But I guess I can do $1 for 1K if I get the missing credit.
There's nothing stopping you from making two $1 purchases, right?

probably a no go, these promos tend to be one time purchase only.

Nothing about that in the terms & conditions, and it seems to have worked for me.

Silver Status Opinion

I'm currently short 5,000 miles short to Silver Status and can purchase the necessary miles for $799. I have no experience when it comes to upgrades etc. and am wondering if it's worth the money to become Silver? I travel once a month on average.

Waiting for invite

I've been inquiring to the Mileage Plus customer service folks for a couple of weeks now about how I could purchase the 859 PQMs needed to achieve Premier Gold status. I saw this post and contacted them today. They acted like they had no idea this program existed. Was told that perhaps United was directly inviting select members to participate. I want to give United the $299 for the 1K PQM I need for Gold but they haven't invited me yet. I fired off an inquiry to customer service to see why not.

Probably not. The main benefits will be 1 free bag, a slight bonus in redeemable miles earned, (mostly) US-based telephone agent accessibility, as well as priority check-in, baggage, security, and boarding (but see the thread on boarding process changes to decide how much of a benefit this is).

You are likely better off just getting the Explorer Card - save $800 this year, pay $95/year beginning next year and get the same benefits PLUS 30k miles for signing up and 2 lounge passes per year.

Same for me as well, finished Gold with 65,156 miles. I think all the Gold to Plat upgrades are on the same pricing tier.

And no, I am not going to drop $1900 on this. Maybe $300 would have been my max.

If I were going for 1K I would have MR'd in December. Definitely not worth that to be 5th instead of 15th on the upgrade list when the doors close.

1K dropping to Gold. They offered $2049 to upgrade to Platinum. Too steep for just 2 regional upgrades, 25% more miles, waived fees for award travel and possible CPU.

Nope - PMUA would do some level of soft landing, or even possibly extension of same status. PMCO always dropped you like a rock.

Very thankful for my banked Flex PQM via Presidential Plus. Was short less than 100 miles for Platinum at the end of December. With the prices quoted, seems like my bank of FPQMs is quite valuable.

Will have to see what is necessary for 2014.

soft landings for non-GS were pretty rare on PMUA, PMUA was pretty hard nose on status level drops.

Yup. A few years ago I missed Prem Exec by 23 miles and they wouldn't budge. I status matched to the dAArk side for a year, and pmUA threw all kinds of promos at me to come back. I guess that they didn't care as much about the 12 months of lost revenue and the cost of the promos as they did about sticking to the hard-and-fast rule.

I got the same offer. We have similar mileage balances; though I have 2,000 PQM from my PresPlus card I could transfer, so I would drop to 12K miles which is still $1849. I can do 9 FLL RTs and get 18K PQM BIS and only be 7 PQM of travel away. Also with the PresPlus card, all I am losing is free E+ seating and the Silver bonus. MEH.

If I know I was going to start flying a lot again this year, then maybe; but still seems like a lot.

I got the offer in the mail but when I go to the link to the purchase page I get this message:
Java Exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 4

Same thing happens in different browsers. I guess they must have changed their minds.
