I got the same pricelist as Groundstop's wife, and in my case I need "only" 9K to get to silver.

Assume the offers are consistent based on your 2012 PQM finishing level (and no historical status level factor), the pricing model for missing PQM needed to achieve next level, seems to be
Code:
to get Silver $150/1K PQM + $49
Silver to Gold $150/1K PQM + $199
Gold to Plat $150/1K PQM + $399
Plat to 1K $250/1K PQM + $649 (Above 10K PQM, $200/1K PQM)
Max 15K PQM, purchase in 1K increments, 1K PQM not available for 1K buy up
Prices for first 1-2K PQM may be slightly lower

summarizing inputs
Code:
     to Silver	Gold	Plat	1K
1K	$199 $299 $349 N/A
2K	$349 $499 $649 $999
3K	$499 $649 $849 $1,399
4K	$649 $799 $999 $1,699
5K	$799 $949 $1,149 $1,949
6K	$949 $1,099 $1,299 $2,199
7K	$1,099 $1,249 $1,449 $2,449
8K	$1,249 $1,399 $1,599 $2,699
9K	$1,399 $1,549 $1,749 $2,949
10K	$1,549 $1,699 $1,899 $3,149
11K	$1,699 $1,849 $2,049 $3,349
12K	$1,849 $1,999 $2,199 $3,549
13K	$1,999 $2,149 $2,349 $3,749
14K	$2,149 $2,299 $2,499 $3,949
15K	$2,299 $2,449 $2,649 $4,149

I'm about 2/3 from silver to gold. Logged in and got the invitation only error message. At the rates people are describing I wouldn't take a buy-up anyway, but am little surpised considering the revenue involved that UA wouldn't even make me an offer.

just to understand, you are less than 15K PQM short of gold and no offer? That is interesting. Wonder what additional criteria is in the offer?
or just random?
May be saving some for an alternative offer structure.

1. They may have looked at $ spend in order to determine which people got the offer under the theory that low BIS spend isn't worth over-populating a tier.

2. The most likely value is in GM to Silver or Plat to 1K. In the former, you can get -UP fares on Y/B and the latter, Y/B/M. Those instant UG's are a huge value to many.

3. Whether an offer is "worth it" is purely individual. If it's what you drop at a bar on a Friday night, it's worth it. If it's the difference between making your mortgage and losing it to foreclosure, I'd say not.

I'm sitting at 22619 PQM's and got the offer for 3000 PQM's @ $499. I am so on the fence! I will have a little more travel this year than last, but is it really worth it? E+ is usually down to middle seats at check in, I never check a bag, and since I fly out of DCA and now have the TSA Pre-Check, is the 25% up tick in award miles worth it?:confused. :

If that were the pricing to go from Gold to Plat (and I only had that much to go), I'd seriously consider it. But given that UA is trying to hit me up for $1899 for the additional 10k PQMs I'd need to hit Plat, no thanks. Too bad I flew so much on AA last year, or I'd be within 2k PQM and would probably just cash in 20k choice miles to get over the hump.

Think I will be passing on this one. Will happily survive 2013 with Platinum status since W fares are getting out of sight and R space more limited so SWUs have less value...and can be bought on Coupon Connection for $200 each, a lot less than those numbers above!

This is what they did in the past; wouldn't surprise me at all to see that they are doing it again.

I was 100% at getting E+ windows and aisles at t-24 in 2012. It's actually not that bad in my experience. I you do OLCI right at t-24 there tend to be new E+ seats opened up due to upgrades.
