UAL, IAD-LHR RT, 767 or 777, any thoughts?

I have the opportunity to use United FF miles for Biz Class for IAD-LHR round trip. The route is serviced by both 767 and 777"s.

The 767 flights are more convenient for my schedule, but I was wondering if there is a great deal of difference between biz class in the aircrafts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both lie-flat business class products are about the same.

The United 777 from IAD-LHR is sometimes swapped out for a slightly different kind of United 777 which has the "old international business class" product, which has reclining seats that are more like Barcaloungers and does not have the nice new lie-flat beds. This can be a problem on an eastbound overnight flight (when sleep is a big deal) and is less of a problem on westbound flights if you're planning to stay awake during the whole flight. This equipment change can happen at any time, even hours before departure, until the entire United 777 fleet is completely reconfigured with the new business-class product (which should be happening soon -- not many old 777s left). In the rare event that a 777 swap does happen, SOP is to give you a $350 voucher to say "sorry about that".

I checked a date in April. The 767 flight (leaving IAD in the morning) could be replaced by sCO 752 with BF flat-lie beds. So, keep this in mind.

Thank you for the replies
My trip is in Feb so it will not be the 752.

Only real difference in the C class is that the 767 is 2-2-2 seating and 777 is 2-4-2.

The 777 BF cabin is split into two, with two rows forward of the galley, making a fairly secluded section whilst the 767 is one cabin with five rows of seats. Both aircraft have forward and backward facing seating.

If you are flying overnight eastbound, 767 centre aisle is guaranteed that you won't be disturbed, and can move about freely. In both aircraft, if you are in the window seat or middle seats getting out when your neighbour has the seat fully flat is difficult without disturbing them.

763 without a doubt. The C seats on the 763 are wider than the C seats on the 777.

Not so sure. I thought the seats were identical but the 767 gives an impression of more space because there are only six across instead of eight. UA lists seat widths for both as 23.5"

Go for the 767. The 777 C cabins are a mess, and the 4 seats in the middle are not nice. In fact the sUA IPTE conversion is overall a bit of a f@&! up.

I believe that not all the 767s in the fleet have been fitted with flat beds... there is a thread to that effect somewhere here...

I believe they are narrower on the 777... I had read they were and they feel it.. I much prefer the 767...

Hmm, OK, I say above that "both lie-flat business class products are about the same", but I think I agree with consensus that the 767 is a little nicer.

The 777 two rows of "mini-cabin" is kinda fun… but really, it all seems a little xkcd "Connoisseur" to me:

Not true anymore unless you get stuck wirh a 762
(highly unlikely on this route). The only other non-flatbed 767s are the high density 764s used on Hawaii routes.

Thank you to all repliers
I ended up doing biz class on the 777 and the 767 (return). I'll report back after the flights.
