Mileage earned on a weird fare???
So I recently booked a mileage run and was expecting to just earn normal mileage. It was in G. Due to Sandy the run was automatically changed due to cancelled flights and when this happens you get put into Y. I've had this happen before during blizzards and you will earn extra elite miles. Anyway, more cancellations and the run was delayed again. Being in Y though I was able to finagle myself into upgraded seats on all the flights. Now my fare shows I'm in R w/ regional upgrades confirmed even though I didn't have to use any. My question is will I earn mileage as though I'm in standard economy or will I earn the extra 25% as though I'm in Y?

Could go either way. Sometimes when this happens, .bomb sees the flight based on its original booking code after the upgrade. Other times, it posts as full Y but then gets corrected later. And finally, sometimes you keep the bonus miles.

Typically, you'll get credited as if you are in full Y. If this does not happen, do not be surprised that you didn't get a benefit you weren't really entitled to. (Unless you really want to call United's attention to all of those other times where you got the bonus miles.)
