Is it just coincident that all non-stop flights from LAX and SFO to IAD are sold out for the rest of the day (10/20/2012)? Perhaps something big is happening in DC tomorrow (Sunday)?

Any irrops earlier today? Last time I was flying transcon, a single irrop on LAX-IAD meant it was tough to find anything on LAX-IAD or SFO-IAD for the rest of the day.

Especially if it was on the widebody but I thought they took out the 777 from the LAX-IAD route, didn't they?

There were some IRROPS at LAX today. I flew on UA 864 (777) to IAD and there were a number of misconnects earlier in the AM that is what booked those flights up quickly.

Actually, another military event might be the cause - the ASUA (Association of the United Stats Army), a non-profit advocacy group, is bringing in over 20,000 attendees for its Annual Meeting at the Convention Center. Registration started on the 18th and the events go until the 24th

20,000 extra pax can definitely saturate single segments.
