Hello all. I am a platinum member on United and I have experienced a problem from time-to-time that I wonder if anyone else has encountered.
Prior to the merger, you could always see online in your reservation that an upgrade was "pending" for complementary upgrades. With the new website, that is no longer visible. And, every once in a while, I show up at the airport and my name does not appear anywhere on the upgrade waiting list, even when a travel companion with a lower status does appear (and there are no other reasons for it -- it is not an award ticket, I paid the same or more as the travel companion, and my status is higher than the travel companion). This of course means that I may have missed out on being upgraded at the 72 hour window since I was not on the list then as well.
I have talked to several people at United, and they never have a good answer for this. Have any of you experienced this and come up with solutions? Is there any way, short of calling them for each reservation a week before, to confirm that you are on the list for an upgrade?
