PDX Late Night Flights

I just received two schedule changes for flights in late November and early December. Both were the late night PDX-IAH flights, and then onward IAH-EWR in the morning.

They both moved to the direct PDX-EWR flight in the morning.

When I looked for other routings (thinking this was related to the IAH reactions to Hobby), the PDX-ORD late night was also missing.

Is this seasonal only, or are they dropping those flights?

I've seen them come and go, I'm thinking it may be seasonal.

If you want a redeye, you can try for an evening PDX-SFO or PDX-SEA and continue on from there.

Weird - I can't find it at all (doing a one-way PDX-ORD search) - unless it's all sold out.

According to ExpertFlyer.. the PDX-ORD redeye only operates on Sundays in December. You're lucky to even get that.. there is no SEA-ORD nonstop redeye at all in December (at least not in early Dec).

Months away, the PDX-IAH redeye shows a departure time after midnight (usually 12:25am) but as the departure date gets closer, it always seems to schedule change to sometime during the 11pm hour...kinda weird that the PDX-ORD red-eye is going away, but if it can't even operate from SEA either (during the month of December) then I guess its no big surprise...just when they finally got the UC at PDX to stay open til 11pm....hope that doesn't go away too

No it's just a seasonal adjustment...and it make sense. With the merger there are now 4 redeye hub destinations from the west coast, EWR, IAD, ORD, & IAH...instead of just 2. At that time of year there just isn't the need for redeyes to all of them every day.

Makes no sense to bypass ORD to EWR. The ORD red eye seems to always be full.

Full is basically irrelevant for two reasons. Your observation of "full" is too small of a sample set. And, full doesn't mean profitable.

If it was full of paid Y, that would be profitable. If it's full of deep discounts, say bye, bye.
