I don't see this posted nor have I heard anything (search on here sucks) but they announced on the plane today that SIN-HKG will go from a 747 to a 777 (plenty of grumbles on board) beginning on April 1st. I guess it's better than reverting back to a 737 though.

Yup to a 3-cabin 777.

Ah that's pretty much a non-issue - it was the previous change to an Asian RJ that caused the grumbling

Trying to decide if I should fly the 3-class 777 to SIN via HKG or 2-class 777 via NRT to SIN.....

Please support the widebody HKG-SIN service. Or it could be taken away again!

NRT-SIN goes back to a three-class PMUA 772 from 5 November. Both flights into SIN will then have common equipment, including IPTE F.

I suspect that Singapore, like Chicago, has now seen its last United Airlines 744....

There is a new issue, it means UA896 will probably have late departure out of HKG every single day.

Currently the days that UA896 HKG-ORD depart on time are the days that they use the 744 that overnight in HKG, any other days if they use the plane from SIN it is almost guranteeded it would depart up to 2 hours late even with no mechanical problem, as the turnaround time is not sufficient unless they change the departure time UA862 depart before UA896.

I'd agree if the flight left anywhere close to on time, which 895 rarely did when UA flew 744s on that route. UA is now routing me through EWR to HKG by only clearing my GPU through EWR. The PMCO 777 is really not bad at all in C, especially with the 2-2-2 configuration.

^^^ x 1000

It seems like we will finally get order restored.

Too bad I am flying NRT-SIN-NRT prior to the switch back.

744-->UAUA772 = slight capacity reduction.

Putting 2 class sCO metal, esp 737 on these routes is a major downgrade.

Incorrect. The schedules of all three related PMUA flights (896 SIN-HKG, 896 HKG-ORD, and 862 HKG-SFO), plus the PMCO HKG-EWR flight, have been changed to allow ample connecting time at HKG, and to protect the through operation of the PMUA 772ER from SIN to ORD. All you need do is read the timetable.

And did you read the timetable yourself ?

I see the exact same timing yesterday or tomorrow's flights for UA896, nothing had changed.

You're a couple of days late:

UA896 through 30 March --
Dep SIN 0630
Arr HKG 1010
Dep HKG 1110
Arr ORD 1230

UA896 from 31 March --
Dep SIN 0600
Arr HKG 0955
Dep HKG 1140
Arr ORD 1310

So, the turn time at HKG for the now through-operated 772ER goes to 1'45", not one hour...................

But of course if one is in E or even E+ thw seat is painfully narrow and the seat pitch in E+ is minimal compared to .eg. a 777
