MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

Calling EWR experts - help with early flight tomorrow

Thanks in advance for the assist and any info. Basically have two questions, and sorry if my first post if too long or I have given too much info....

Have a flight tomorrow morning with a connection through EWR to STT. Was labeled 'risky connection' - 49 minutes from theoretical wheels down to wheels up, in different terminals. Normally I wouldn't have booked this option, but I had a fairly high dollar United 'use or loose' ticket value that expires this week, and the United options with F available on the leg to STT were already limited when I booked.

Here's the flight details (terminal data from EWR flight tracker):

DCA to EWR, 710am - 821 am, United Express, arriving to Terminal A - A26
EWR to STT, 910am - 215 am, United, Departing from Terminal C - C83

Thankfully weather is predicted clear at both airports and booked in seat 2A on the DCA to EWR leg, so I should be early off if my carryon fits (it's allowable size but boxy and sometimes doesn't).

First question, just the obvious, how risky is this connection itself? My gut feel is it may be tight, but should be Ok if the DCA flight is generally on time, and I don't dally at all after deboarding. (Yes?)

Second question, and this is more my concern how to handle - how risky is luggage making it if I check a bag at DCA? Getting everything in the carryon will be herculean, but possible. My primary concern is my cans of deet and sunlotion. I wasn't able to find 'baby' size bottles this evening to put in my ziplock bag, and I don't think TSA will let a normal can of deep woods off deet go through in a carry-on (?), or any repellent / lotion in a normal size. So I was thinking perhaps to check a small bag also. (Thoughts???)

I can suck it up and pay the tourist price for sun lotion when I get there. But with the zika virus have read on some travel forums deet is becoming harder to get on the islands reliably period, and they are recommending visitors bring their own. Not able to get deet on the island would not be good once I am there. STT is not the final destination - taking the ferry to St John. So trailing luggage becomes more complicated.

Thanks for any thoughts/feedback - much appreciated.

I flew DCA-EWR last month. Clear weather at both ends. After we taxied to the end of the runway at DCA, pilot pulled into the penalty box and turned off engines for a half hour while we were held for "flow control" into EWR. You would not have made your connection on that day.

Hope your flight does better tomorrow.

on most days you should be OK

Not uncommon for luggage to do better than the traveler.

Be careful not to have too much in your checked luggage -- "no more than 70 ounces per person and no more than 16 ounces in each container."

Consolidated Connection time/logistics-Domestic & International at EWR

As far as small amounts of liquids, try this:
Empty hotel sample bottles of shampoo, wash and refill with your favorite sunscreen and bug spray. Worked fine for a recent trip to CUN I did.
Carry on was the way to go for 3 nights.

It's well hidden! Look halfway up the connecting tube from the pod to the terminal building, and you'll find it. Requires clearing security then doubling back toward the main building in a very narrow sub-corridor from the exit route.

What transportprof said! And may I add that when I was there last week it was both clean and uncrowded, unlike any club at ORD, IAD or DEN.

Or the EWR Terminal C clubs, for that matter.

Not hidden so much as not really in the rotunda of gates.

It's in the "security hallway"... Keep in mind that Terminal A was built before modern-day security practices. Those hallways used to be open-access eons ago, so having the club attached to it made sense.

Now with the hamster maze called "TSA", it seems completely out of place - you exit TSA and backtrack a hair to get to the club - but the way Term A is design, that's darned near impossible to fix.

It's not difficult at all. You just knock the whole thing down and build a new Terminal A!

http://www.pgal.com/portfolio/newark...terminal-a-re/

Anybody know what the timeframe is on the project? Can't be too soon with all the renovation work they're currently doing to Terminal A.

Agree that it's usually not crowded. It also has a shower which is rarely used. If not a UC member but arriving in GF or BF and transferring to a flight in Terminal A, you should still have access to the lounge.

The last thing i've heard about it was the 2020-2022 timeframe. Apparently even that is optimistic.

Just to confirm please.... the directions above are for someone coming through security at EWR, correct? By "Exit TSA" you mean "complete the security screening to enter the secure area"? If one is in the Gate area/satellite already (such as a connecting passenger)...they can go down the hallway to the Club still without leaving the secure area? That would be a disaster if it was changed. Haven't been to Term A Club in about 3 yrs.
