I'm a Canadian citizen traveling HKG-GUM-HNL-SFO-YVR next week, don't expect to check a bag, just carry on. The GUM layover is only 40 minutes, I presume since I'm arriving from HKG that I would clear US Immigration as indicated earlier in this thread and I have TSA Pre-check but it still seems awfully tight: my questions: Does Pre-check even operate in GUM?

No PreCheck according to the official listing. Even if they do, you're using the post-immigration TSA, not the regular public entrance TSA. For immigration, there's supposedly Global Entry at GUM but I don't know if it does any good admitting you to the 50US or declaring US customs at HNL. You will have to re-clear TSA at HNL (dumped landside after customs), so PreCheck will be useful.

As noted 40 minutes is a very doable connection in GUM, but it does not mean you have time to "take your time". The staff at the connecting passenger desk will do their best to help you make your flight, but I have experienced a long line for TSA screening.

There are currently some cheap(ish) fares SFO->HNL->GUM->HKG and back and am thinking about doing "3 perfect days" w/ Mrs. Jet'Dillo, picking up a nice slice of extra PQMs along the way.
We're being shown a 35-40 minute connection time at either end and are planning travelling carryon-only.
It sounds like GUM is small enough that they know who's coming/going and who's going to be late, but I'm hoping to get some recent intelligence on transiting through GUM.
Thanks!,
JD

1. Onward flights are long, a few minutes can easily be made up.
2. Rebooking is difficult. It's not like there's a next flight in a couple hours.
3. There's almost never ATC or weather delays, so there is cost for misconnecting a passenger, beside workload, which will belong to your fellow local colleagues.
4. It's quite a security challenge to escort someone out of the terminal.

It took me less than ten minutes offload from the HNL UA201 [arr 5:59pm] at Gate 8 to my next flight GUM-HKG UA147 at Gate 15 which was scheduled to leave @6:40pm. Yes, it is a short walk in such a small airport. I even had time to go to the UC for a short pit stop which was on my way to the UA147 gate. For transit folks, there is no document check or immigration stop. Just need to walk from the arrival gate to the departure gate which both are in the same terminal.

My flight on Oct 15th last Tuesday: HNL - GUM - HKG It took me less than ten minutes offload from the HNL UA201 [arr 5:59pm] at Gate 8 to my next flight GUM-HKG UA147 at Gate 15 which was scheduled to leave @6:40pm. UA147 is now scheduled for an unusual long block time of 5 h 10 min. I think they're padding it both for connections from HNL and to SGN. As NRT-HKG will be discontinued next week, the connection is going to be even more important for both passengers and crew.

UA Guam Tight Connection (HNL-GUM-HKG)
Hi All, my significant other is doing a mileage run via GUM in the next two days, and has a 40 minute connection in GUM (arrive from HNL, and connect to HKG). Can you refresh my memory how the transfer procedure is handled for incoming flights from Hawaii and then onward to Int'l destination? 40 minutes is not a lot of time, so any tips and/or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

The return is more complicate but there will be UA agent there to help.

55 mins connecting in Guam. Doable?
I booked my flight hnl-gum-hkg with 55 mins connecting time. I searched and found threads saying yes but concerning:
1. what's the agricultural inspection thing? i entered US with non-resident visa, will that cause longer time getting thru Guam or not matter at all?
2. in case that hnl-gum arrives late, they do hold plane or just rebook?

2. You will never "just missed it". They'll either hold the plane or they'll not. Next week UA NRT-HKG will be history, they'll put you on GUM-NRT-HKG or GUM-MNL-HKG on anyone's metal.

In most of the case, UA will hold the planes as you are not the only one that need to catch connections (like GUM-MNL).
As soon as you are not in a hurry to HKG, nothing to worry.

just to give you FT'ers a heads up
just came back from manila to honlulu via guam 11252013
change in transit procedure is in effect
you must now pass through guam customs now even without claiming
your luggage and then go back upstairs from arrivals
USCBP inspector said it was changed about 3 weeks ago
