I'm expecting more of a range of Explorer cards to appear eventually.
The current sole Explorer offering is too low-end to compete with the United Mileage Plus Visa Select, which pays out double miles on most of my purchases (groceries, gas, dining) and gives an EQM for every dollar spent on United.com (up to 5,000) as well as triple miles there.
The new card only pays out double miles and no EQMs for United.com.
Overall I'd see a big drop in CC miles if I switched, and only acquire benefits like early boarding that I already have as a 1P.
Therefore I assume they're working on adding some higher specced cards to the range with more appeal to 1P and 1K folks. Top of my wish list would be no foreign transaction fees (I think the Club card is the only MP card with that feature currently).

The higher level will come out eventually - it will replace the current OP Presidential Plus and the dead MP Club.

Just a quick report.
Got the 25k bonus on the Chase United explorer card when the first bill arrived. I wasn't sure if I'd get the bonus because I got the sign up bonus for the Chase Continental card in March and I had cancelled a Chase United card about 3 years ago.
As a Delta FF, I cherish Continental and United miles for the abundant redemption opportunities. SQ and OZ are fantastic airlines!

Purchase EQM
One benefit of this card that I don't see anyone mentioning is that you can purchase EQM at a rate of 10,000 card miles = 1,000 EQM. I believe you can redeem 5k EQM max per year in this way.
It may not be as good as older cards that gave EQM without having to use the card miles, but this is at least something worth calling out when we're enumerating the features and benes of the Explorer card.
10k points is basically $100 in the CC world, so you are buying 1,000 EQM for $100, which isn't a terrible rate for not having to ever put your butt in the chair. Sure you can do an MR and get 2x the EQM for the same spend, but this you can do from the convenience of your couch at the end of the year and save your weekend for something useful.
Sry if this has been mentioned before, but I didn't read all 20 pages for this thread in fine detail to make sure =)

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but how long do miles take to post to the MP account *after* they appear on the statement? I have 40k miles on my Chase statement, which closed 11/16, but still nothing in MP. On my MP Select card the miles usually appear within a couple of days.

Hey all,
I have read through about 75% of this thread because I hate having to ask a question that seems to be a "noobish" type of thing. Having been a lurker on Flyertalk for awhile, I know that many times such questions aren't given the "best of love" in some circles.
I am faced with the following question. I have had one of the original, old school, Chase Continental Onepass Visa Signature cards. I know it is no longer available, heck the URL on the chase website for it no longer even shows the card (Although if I do go to this Chase website and click on 'Other cards,' the image is still there.). I've had this thing since 2002 and really haven't given any serious thought about it. The only benefits from the card are earning miles, first bag is free, and your standard "Earn 2 miles for each $1 spent on tickets purchased through Continental and United." Think the annual fee is like $45.
But given the merger and everything else going on, I was curious if it would be worth looking at upgrading (let me rephrase, I know it is but trying to get specifics). I don't honestly care about not getting the signup bonus miles, more for the 'other features' that I know for a fact I don't get these days. I was wondering if anyone else happened to still have one of these ancient relic cards and had any information on what might be automatically happening to them (if anything) given the new post-merger cards coming out?

Explorer card has similar benefits. You also get priority boarding. That would be a big difference between the 2. For all other, smaller, benefits, see the OP

Given the above, would you recommend switching to an Explorer or waiting?
