thanks for the input. according to the seat map in ExpertFlyer F is only 3/7 at the moment on UA804. I believe that even though the flights share the same number there is an a/c change required at NRT if you are going BKK-NRT-IAD.

There are a couple of reasons this ended up this way. There were no F award seats on UA804 BKK-NRT. And I have been wanting to try the TG F suite on 676. My original itinerary was TG676 followed by AC2 at 17:00 then a very long layover at YYZ until AC312 to DCA. So when I saw an open F seat on the direct NRT-IAD flight pop up I figured it was worth a try. There are a few F seats open on UA882 to ORD at the moment and a couple in C and then there are several flights to DCA/IAD from there. But I really would prefer not to have to go through passport control/customs at ORD. Another option looks like it will be AC2 if I can get things done in a hurry if I miss UA804 and a connection from there to DCA or IAD.

It looks like TG676 is quite variable so I will cross my fingers and hope that Monday is an early or on-time day.

NRT is very efficient and I've turned around connections even going through customs in 10-15 minutes. See this thread for some additional details:

You have plenty of time as scheduled, but no, UA won't wait. IME, UA won't wait 5 mins for their own flights in NRT, much less TG.

On my recent 2 UA flights back to US, it seemed that they started boarding ahead of the printed boarding time. I showed up at the gate a few mintues before the printed boarding and only found out that F/C/elite boarding already finished. I overhead a GA said that they (UA) wanted to go home early, so that process started ahead of time.

according to the data on Expert Flyer UA has been departing this flight early quite frequently...by 15 minutes or so which seems unfair unless all of the pax are present and accounted for. If they are leaving anyone behind then I think they owe some compensation.

To add to my woes, TG just subbed the 77W out for their old 747 on my flight. So I expect to miss the connection just because everything possible has been going wrong.

ultimately I made the connection fine. There was an ANA ground service staff waiting for me as I exited the TG flight to escort me through transit security and walk me to the UA flight. We arrived at the gate with plenty of time but everyone else had pretty much already boarded and they were making a final call announcement even though it was still 25-30 minutes to scheduled departure. They must have some big incentive to get out early or on-time as they made a huge big deal about it.

In the end the crew on this flight was night and day different to the crew on my IAD-PEK flight when I went over to Asia. They were extremely service oriented on this flight. Some one was in the cabin frequently to refill water glasses during the flight. Some sort of issue with the oven meant that my filet wasn't cooked. I asked them to give it some more cooking time and it still wasn't really cooked through very well. But I didn't make a big deal about it. The FA seemed to feel this was a huge let down though and gave me an appreciation card because she felt bad, not because I asked for one. In the end this was the way F service should always be...not the total disappearance like my crew to PEK.

Question about NRT

I have a 55 minute connection in NRT, I am coming on United and departing on All Nippon, I believe this requires a change of terminals. Is 55 minutes enough time to make it?

It's the same terminal. You will need to go through security but you should be able to do it. Is it booked on the same itinerary / ticket ?

Question about connecting time for UA 891 and CO79

Hi,

UA891 Arrives NRT at 4:35 p.m.
CO79 Departs NRT at 5:25 p.m.

I only have 50 minutes to transfer at NRT and I need to go thru the security check point in NRT. Do I have enough time to make it? What if UA891 is delayed, will UA rebook me to UA9727/NH911 which departs at 6:40 p.m.?

Thanks!

I flew both of these flights last Wednesday - even if you're delayed out of LAX "some" you'll have no problem making your connection to the "Continental" 737 flight to HKG. Getting an upgrade on the CO segment is another matter...

You should be fine. I did a 25 minute transfer from AC > UA in NRT two weeks ago.. UA wouldn't let me on the flight because my checked bag wouldn't make it .. If the bag had made it, I would have been able to fly.. Aircraft door was open for 10+ minutes after I got to the gate..

What is adequate connection time at NRT?

I need to fly to SIN next month and have a few choices but via NRT looks best. .bomb is offering one option with 50 minutes for the connection. Is this reasonable or would I be crazy to risk it?

50 minutes should be enough for 1K with regular operation. It takes only a few minutes to go through the security check (which has priority line for elites) for transfer at NRT. By the way, there are another *A flights to SIN from NRT in the evening the agents could rebook you into if you miss the flight. However, if you are not flexible regarding arrival time at SIN, you might want to look for another options with longer connection.

As long as your inbound is on time you will most likely be OK unless you are way back in the plane and it takes forever to get off.
