ATC @ LCY to be removed and relocated to NATS HQ

Yes, you did read that correctly.

Air traffic controllers at London City Airport will become the first in the UK to direct planes via videolink.

A digital control tower will be installed in 2019 - meaning controllers will be able to guide planes from 80 miles away in Hampshire by watching live footage from high-definition cameras.

They will offer an incredible 360-degree view of the airfield in greater detail than the human eye, according to the airport.
What a time to be alive...

That's called fog in the real, as opposed to the virtual, world.

Although fog is fairly predictable, or at least has some notice.

What if the connection drops at 7am on a Monday morning with a few dozen flights about to land?

It's good they picked an airport with a standard approach and lots of space on the ground to try this out....

Doncaster Approach I can believe, but I don't believe any airport Tower is currently being operated remotely.
