I'll give the same advice I always give to people coming to London for the first time.
It is a very walkable city with a huge amount of things to see within a relatively small area concentrated around Parliament Square,Buck House,Trafalgar Square and south to the river and along to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
Bring a good pair of walking shoes/sneakers and acquaint yourself with both the Underground and Bus timetables. Buses are everywhere and a great way of seeing London from the top deck of a double-decker.
