BAE 146 - UK operators in the 1990s

Hi all,

I am sure that in the 1990s I took a flight in a BAE146 from LTN to NCL.

I definitely took the flight, aircraft type may be wrong, it was definitely a high wing and the wings sloped downwards.

From what I recall, the livery was mainly purple. Any ideas as to what airline I flew with?

From your description, it was probably Debonair. The airline folded in 1999.

That's the one! Thank you so much, it's been bugging me for a few days now!

I remember seeing the aircraft for the first time and thinking how 'cute' it looked!

Debonair did indeed fly between Luton and Newcastle, three times a day when they started.

I flew on Debonair(operating under a LH flight number) from MUC-MAN on their last day of existence. Great flight but very sad for the employees. They gave away all the champagne and food aboard and made it a great flight despite the obvious. I always hoped that they got other jobs in the industry very quickly.

There used to be lots operating at LCY because of their STOL capabilities.

My first flight aboard the BAe-146 was in 1985 aboard this little beauty, the little -100 model in the service of Colorado's Aspen Airways. I went on to fly numerous examples all over the world, from Finland to New Zealand and many points in between. Far and away my favorite regional aircraft!

I used to fly in these lots with Air UK,to EDI and AMS,from LCY and Gatwick.Great aircraft,no reverse thrust, just 'spoilers' to slow you down, and a fantastic angle of descent when landing,FAB!!

One of my favorite aircraft. Remember the first time I landed into LCY in one and really enjoyed the whole flight. Great comfort and different takeoff and landing experience.

The -146 was always an aircraft that I enjoyed flying. For one thing, if your itinerary included the BAe-146, your destination was probably somewhere moderately interesting in Europe. And the high wing meant you could watch the scenery below no matter what seat you were in.

And for another thing, THEY CERTAINLY DIDN'T HAVE MUCH CABIN NOISE, DID THEY?

Maybe they were noisy but their bleed air system could often be contaminated with lots of nasty junk....

I'm sure there was a pilot from Liverpool on the EZY version of Airline - who said she had worked for them.

I know a current Easyjet captain who used to fly the BAe 146 early in her career, I think more than one Easyjet pilot used to fly the 146.
