In the case of HEX, it's because HAL promotes it shamelessly, to the point of nearly obliterating any reference to, or signage for, Heathrow Connect.

I use airportstransfer.com from LHR to my hotel. Ł46 total for 2, regardless of the traffic -- easier for door to door with luggage. Dependable and can customize (by phone) to make a stop en route. (Surcharge for diversions.)

As do we all! Saturday just gone was glorious, but in return we're getting three very wet days... this morning's heavy downpour in London was a bit grim.

[QUOTE=prmetime;25314589] My original plan was to take the Piccadilly line to Russell square tube station and then take the short walk to the hotel. As of now, it appears that the job action by the tube staff will likely interrupt this plan.
1700:The strike has been called off so the Piccadilly line is clearly your best option

3) Car service - Ł 42 for two from LHR to my Bloomsbury area hotel.

Of course, YMMV.
And an Old Codgers Railcard means a third off the Connect fare but not usable on HEX.
Let's hear it for grey power

Eh? A Senior Railcard can be used to get a third off the HEX fare as well as the Connect fare.

Heathrow Express - Railcards

Blimey, that's useful to know as I was convinced I'd read somewhere they weren't usable.
Mind you I'd still use Heathrow Connect - at my age I'm in no rush to go anywhere !

AKA Twerlies Card.

( OAP travel on buses is often only available after 9am.Hence lots of pensioners asking bus drivers around 9am " am I too early ? " )

Though the "Twerlie card" description really applies to the senior citizen bus pass rather than the Senior Railcard.

(For what it's worth, the Senior Railcard only has a morning peak restriction in the London & South East area - meanwhile the Network Railcard, which is only valid in the London & South East area, has a blanket ban on use before 10am on weekdays - well almost, there are a few so called 'easements'.)
