Bread bag twist ties....clockwise or anti clockwise to open?
Despite living here for nearly seven years one thing which still catches me out are the twist ties they use on the likes of a bag of sliced bread. I automatically try to loosen them by turning them anti clockwise when in fact here you have to twist them clockwise to loosen them.
The wife despite my constant mumblings still doesn't believe me when I tell her in the UK twist ties have to be turned anti clockwise to loosen them. I'm sure I'm right but I could be wrong.
I'd appreciate if someone in the UK could settle this difference of opinion.

I think they were replaced by little strips of plastic bag type material which stick together - so it would be difficult to experiment. But my memory accords with yours.

Yes come to think of it they were being replaced by those sticky strips. They're also becoming more common here and just as annoying to get off if they don't leave the ends separated.
Thanks for confirming which way the twists were put on.

Here in the States the color of the twist tie or tag correlates to the day of the week the product was made. Does that hold true also elsewhere?
Also just went to the cupboard and checked the twist tie does undo itself when twisted counterclockwise.

Blue, Orange, Purple, Green, Yellow for Monday - Friday.
I've noticed it still in use in the Far East.

I just searched to find some back up in case I'd been dreaming. Here's a guy's blog which mentions it (half way down the page):

and here's a mention on a forum (last post on the page)

I tried tried a muscle memory test, closed my eyes and loosened the imaginary bread-bag in front of me. Anti-clockwise to loosen. Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey as they say. That would have been from Canada, though, as since I have been in the UK only seen the sticky-tape closures.
