Trial period is free of charge. Fees will be payable later this year, apparently.
It's a shame that you needed to be registered for iris to participate. My partner is a Japanese national with ILR status and this could have made things a lot easier for us.

Used the e-passport gates at LHR for the first time last week. 'Twas a breeze.
