the classic Tyne Bridge (the prototype for the Sydney Harbor Bridge).
Ahem, the Tyne Bridge was indeed finished before the Sydney Bridge, but it was started afterward. It finished earlier because it's much smaller.
As the BBC says:
The Tyne Bridge was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson who based their design on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which in turn derived its design from the Hell Gate Bridge in New York.
However, Newcastle's a great place. I spent three months working on a rig in South Shields once - friendliest people in the whole of UK & Ireland.

I have to add the very top of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. It takes a physical workout of stair climbing to reach that level, but the views are breathtaking.

Norwich Cathedral also, there's nothing to spoil the view. Nothing at all .

I also absolutely love the view and train journey from Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William and Mallaig along the Highland line.

The North Yorkshire Moors is also outstanding.

All,

I do have to say THANKS for continuing to add ideas of great views - some new ideas for things to do!

I know the Visit Britain link is probably selfishly driven, but am glad to see continued discussion and ideas that result from a limited list!

Agree very much on this one and if you ever find yourself somewhere east and a little south of Hawes in Yorkshire keep a look out for Jervaulx Abbey. It's one of the few abbey ruins that are in private hands. You park at the small cafe/garden shop that is owned by the people who own the abbey grounds and walk a bit to get to the abbey entrance. They have an honor box if you'd care to contribute to the upkeep; not that there IS much upkeep. One of the most peaceful places on earth.

Probably because I've been watching Lewis, but the views of Oxford and the colleges are fantastic.

Memories of childhood

The view from Dumyat is particularly good. (Wallace's Monument, Bannockburn, Arthurs Seat, Forth river...)

This has always been one of my favourites (although to be fair this isn't the best of photographs), but I may be biased having grown up two miles down the road

The view from Dover Castle on the harbour below is breathtaking. But only on a sunny day.

The view of Bath from many places, but in particular from Camden Crescent, is particularly stunning.

I will never tire of the view of London from atop Parliament Hill.

But, IMHO, beaten by the view across the Backs to King's College, Cambridge.

Especially on a misty day.

The view from the top of York Minster is also rather special:
