Fish and Chips in Manchester

Hi,
I'm staying for three nights in Manchester and I'm looking for some nice fish and chips. Can anybody give me a recommendation?

Are you up for a little excursion out of the city? Alan and Viv's in Mossley:

20 minutes on the train from Manchester Victoria, and it's right across from Mossley Station. Best fish and chips in the north of England!

You won't be disappointed, it's like the chippies that used to be on almost every street corner when I was a kid - many, many moons ago. Very much a dying breed now. Bear in mind that most days they only open lunchtimes, evenings are just Friday and Saturday from memory.

I've not been to that specific branch but experiences at other Harry Ramsden's have not been good.

I would have to agree that last time I saw them it wasnt so nice.

In additon the family that own them, arent very nice either. So I would refuse to eat at them from now on.

It depends on where you are staying and budget.

You might be able to find vouchers online. But they are usually good.

Horrible, nasty, chain. Have taken what once was a wonderful institution and turned it into mass catering.

Again, now another chain with good and bad experiences.

Unfortunately, there is nowhere around Manchester that I have personally visited in the past ten years that I could recommend for good fish and chips.

rhodeswood's suggestion may be worth following up. Unless you get any better suggestions, I'd steer away from the chains.

I have only had good experiences with LF. Of course my visits to the real one are great. But life isnt perfect. But the food is a god quality and the staff from my experience are okay.

But as you have commented. I dont enjoy the Manchester pubs. From my experience I have found them missing so much.

until last March I would have said get down to a Vintage Inn and have their fish and chips. But they changed supplier last year and it just isnt the same.

I find most chippies are okay as long as you stay away from the ones which would rather sell you a kebab or a pizza.
Any proper chippy will do.....go in have a look and if the fish looks okay then give them a try. It's the one thing I really look forward to having when visiting the UK every year.

I would actually try to go to this one. If I have the chance new time I am up there, I will. But that will be long after your visit.

Oh heck. So sorry to have given out-of-date info about Harry Ramsden's. Please go elsewhere .... and I've made a memo to myself to do the same. Thanks to others for correcting me.
