Any idea how to check when they might even consider to launch the tag-on flight to DPS? I assume they would not have enough demand to warrant 2 flights to Indonesia, a tag-on flight being easier to fit in.

Good news... I guess last year's decision of Indonesian government to lift visa requirements for EU nationals is paying off as traffic is on the raise...

Turkish Airlines´ route Istanbul – Košice will connect Eastern Slovakia with the world

Košice, 18th April 2016



Turkish Airlines, Europe’s Best Airline (according to Skytrax Survey, 2015), flying to more countries than any other airline, on the press conference in Košice today announced that it will operate regular connection Istanbul – Košice. The first flight is planned on the 16th June 2016. The flights will be operated three times per week: every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with departure from Košice at 10:05 in the morning and arrival to Istanbul at 13:05. Turkish Airlines will deploy various aircraft types on the route (Boeing 737-800, Airbus A319, Airbus A320), based on the demand.

Fatih Cigal, vicepresident Turkish Airlines for sales in Central Europe on today´s press conference said: „As Turkish Airlines, we give a particular importance to Košice, considering its strategic, cultural, historical, commercial and touristic significance and thus the passenger potential to enable to feed our global network. We are glad to take such a big step on the connection of Eastern Slovakia with the world.”

The prices of a round trip ticket from Košice to Istanbul will start from 200 EUR* (incl. all taxes). But there is so much more than Istanbul what Turkish Airlines can offer for passengers from Eastern Slovakia. The Starr Alliance member flies to more than 280 destinations worldwide and a great deal of them will be available within convenient transfer times in Istanbul. For example:



Tel Aviv from 350 EUR* Johannesburg from 540 EUR*

Los Angeles from 750 EUR* Honk Kong from 580 EUR*

Bangkok from 585 EUR* Singapore from 575 EUR*



Levend Arisoy, general manager Turkish Airlines in Slovakia said: „We are working since almost 4 years on this project with Košice Airport, and finaly succeded to have 3 flights a week. We believe that with the market demand we are going to have daily flights until the end of this year. Košice is not only Košice for us. We are considering the entire East Slovakia, like Prešov, Poprad, Michalovce, north east Hungary like Miskolc, north west Romania, south east Poland and even the Karpatian area of Ukraine.”

Michael Tmej, CEO of Košice International Airport: “We are delighted to welcome our new partner Turkish Airlines in Košice. We have been working hard for four years in order to convince this strong global carrier. We are happy to inform passengers from Eastern Slovakia, north-eastern Hungary, south-eastern Poland and western Ukraine that they will have great opportunity to explore a bunch of destinations in America, Asia and Africa with departure from Košice and comfortable transfer in Istanbul.”

Richard Raši, Mayor of Košice: “It is a great success for Košice and whole region of Eastern Slovakia that such a strong air carrier as Turkish Airlines with enormous offer of destinations will fly to Košice. For people from Eastern Slovakia it no longer makes sense to travel to Budapest because they can enjoy the comfort of departure from Košice do long-haul destinations all over the world.

Mário Németh, general director of civil aviation section at Ministry of transport, construction and regional development: “Opening of Istanbul connection with Turkish Airlines is important step for whole region of Eastern Slovakia. New opportunities are opening not only for tourists, but especially for business people and investors from all over the world. Ministry of transport is ready to further support regular connections from Slovakia to important hubs in Europe.”

Róbert Vincze, director of Slovak Convention Bureau: “New Turkish Airlines connection between Istanbul and Košice represents significant contribution to tourism development also in congress and incentive segment in Slovakia. Thanks to this route, air accessibility of Eastern Slovakia, High Tatras and Liptov region from the whole world will be rapidly increased.”

Turkish Airlines Adds Kosice (Slovakia) Service from mid-June 2016

Turkish Airlines from mid-June 2016 is launching service to Slovakia, which sees the addition of Istanbul Ataturk – Kosice route, 3 times a week. First flight is scheduled on 16JUN16, with a mix of Boeing 737-800 and -900ER aircraft.

Well, not really... Please remember that for political reasons they cannot fly to Armenia and Cyprus...

Cyprus and the rest

TK is already flying to Cyprus. They fly to Ercan Airport in the Northern Part due to political reasons.

The remaining countries and regions in Europe are Iceland, Southern Cyprus, Armenia, Abkhazia, Karachayevo, Chechnia, Ossetia, Dagestan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Crimea, Laponia (Murmansk and/or Rovaniemi), Faröer, Sardinia, Corsica, Baleares (Majorca and/or Ibiza), Canarias (Tenerife and/or Las Palmas), Bretagne (Nantes), Northern Ireland, Wales, Frisia (Groningen), Scania (Malmö), Silesia (Wroclaw), Moravia (Brno), Transylvania (Cluj-Napoca), Bogdan (Iasi), Gagausia (Comrat), Crete (Heraklion), Dodekanesos (Rodos and/or Cos) etc.

Sky's the limit.

To the island yes... But not to the Republic of Cyprus (just a friendly reminder that Northern Cyprus is not recognized by any country other than Turkey). Sorry, if we went too political here...

Very strange list... The only countries are Iceland and Armenia. Do we want TK to fly to every village in Europe?

Even Friedrichshafen get 2x daily now

Still waiting for Sion to get one.. Afaik the only commercial airport in Switzerland that is A320 capable and not yet getting serviced by TK..

Has TK ever looked at last piece of Southern Africa? LUN, WDH, and GBE? Maybe daily IST-LUN with a tag to either GBE and WDH for 3 and 4 days of the week.

Turkish Airlines Adds Seychelles Service from late-Oct 2016

Turkish Airlines in last week’s schedule update opened reservation for its planned Istanbul Ataturk – Mahe Island (Seychelles) service, with 3 weekly flights scheduled. Airbus A330-200 aircraft will be operating this route from 31OCT16.
