True, though I think Havana and Caracas are needed stops due to the elevation of Mexico City and Bogota

I wish they had chosen Florence.

Considering the textile and leather production in Prato it makes me wonder even more.

Bologna will enjoy twice daily service from May, which makes sense.

Australia delayed

On AusBT

Turkish Airlines has put its plans for a Sydney-Istanbul flight on the back burner.

The airline intended to launch its first Australian service early this year with a stop-over in Asia but a longer term aim of making a direct flight as new extra-long range jets joined its fleet.

Kudos to TK to even planning such route. They certainly do not lack courage.
When it will become a no-stop flight a single connection hop to Australia from many home airports will be a reality. Issue is the long term profitability of the operation.
Would be interesting to guess in what time of the day the IST-SYD might be scheduled.
For little frequency feeder a late afternoon/evening window play a key role.

SYD has curfew 11pm-6am, so they need to take it into consideration - for such the long flight scheduling departure/arrival too close to curfew is quite risky...

Good point.
This might be a ~16 hours sector (EK DXB-SYD requires 14h outbound). Considering the time difference Turkey/East Australia, summertime, the departure should not exceed approximately the 9PM to be safe with the SYD curfew.

IST-SYD is 9300 miles, 25% and 1800 miles longer than DXB-SYD, and 35% and 2500 miles longer than IST-LAX. Really don't see the echonomics of that flight...

The logical thinking should be IST-PER, and beating the horrible prices of EK or QR. Flight around 13 hours, not short but reasonable with 787, A340 or 777 (QR flight DOH-PER 11 hours with 787).
Keep in mind that Turkish is controlled by politicians, and there is few meritocracy between the high level management.
