Use Precheck line by flashing GE card? (flying non-Precheck airline)

I was let into the precheck line at JFK a few months back by simply showing my GE card. Since I was flying a non-precheck airline, when I got to the TSA officer, he directed me to the front of the regular security line. Is this a hidden benefit of GE or am I taking advantage of the system?

Lucky x 2. The contractors who monitor access should have denied OP and the agent could just as easily have given OP the boot.

Noted. I guess I'll stick to regular security when flying non-precheck airlines from now on.
