US/Canadian Issued APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC): Updates, Experiences, Q&A
Canada announced participation in the APEC ABTC program back in October (See http://www.vancouversun.com/business...735/story.html) and the application procedure suggested here (http://www.pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2013/10...ss-travel-card) is to contact an e-mail address of ABTC‑[email protected]. But that e-mail address seems to bounce back as a bad address.
Does anyone know the proper contact to get the application completed? Has anyone been successful in Canada getting it activated? Thank you! |
Canada will determine eligibility (NEXUS required) and application will be done on CBP GOES website. US DHS will issue ABTC for Canada.
$70 for 3 years. Only provides access to crew/diplomatic lanes. No visa "waiver." See page 6. http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014...2014-10767.pdf |

Ahem... they are requiring proof of residence in States on the GOES web site. If I do not live in States, then what?

Just submitted my application! How long did it take to get approved, a couple hours, a couple minutes?

The APEC card requires you travel for business purposes to the member countries. Plus you must be a Global Entry, or similar member. Get interviewed, etc. I'm also a little confused about the APEC card. The website shows that you still need a visa for countries that require them. Is the purpose of the card to just get through security quicker? The APEC card costs $70, in addition to the $100 Global Entry or similar, fee. |

According to above, if already Global Entry member, all you have to do is visit center for electronic signature?? Very confusing... A link please, thanks! ;)

I don't think you can apply for the card, if you don't live in the US. Perhaps apply in the country you're living in?

If you are a GE member, then all you have to do is pay the fee, "self-certify" you are a business person with business in APEC countries and go to an enrollment center and have your signature captured. I believe the signature gets printed onto the card.
After some digging, found it in my GE account....not very obvious. I applied and received approval relatively quickly. I will drop into enrollment center next time I'm in area. Hopefully it will eventually be valid for entry into two countries that I visit and still requires visas: Indonesia and Vietnam. Thanks! |
thanks for the update guys, but where is the option to apply ABTC though?
I logged in to GOES and clicked manage membership, but not seeing the option to apply for ABTC though. |
US travelers to get APEC Business Travel Card
After you click manage membership (assuming you are existing GE) there should be a row of blue buttons across the top allowing you to replace a card, apply for Netherlands Privium, Korea SES, and APEC Business Travel Card.
