This is a very brief picture report that I felt compelled to post to demonstrate how far a carrier can go and how well presented they can do an actual meal in short haul first class. This is the meal service on a 1 hour and 20 minute flight from TPE-HKG on Cathay Pacific in F.
Whilst other carriers are full of nonsensical excuses such as "there isn't enough time" or "it's too expensive",.......(nothing even CLOSE to this is served in longer-haul US flights such as New York to Los Angeles - and they have a good 5 to 6 hours to do it), CX retain the true F experience even in such a short flight! The service was also top notch. And there was Champagne on this short flight.
It makes me almost forgive them for cancelling my other intra-Asia F flights. But they only do this route in F a few times a week now. Perhaps if they get more business, they'll add the service to more flights again (eventually?).
Place setting
Starter of salmon
Main of beef steak
Sweet of chestnut cheesecake
The FA even asked me if I wanted English or French mustard with my steak. Now if that is not GREAT service, what is?
I mean everyone can choose whatever they want, but I always try the regional or origin dish they have instead, in CX F you may get real shark fin soup or slow cooked abalone from Ah Yat's restaruant in Hong Kong.

I usually do order the local dishes when available, but some of these "regional" dishes I have at home anyway.
The other choice was a garoupa dish in "soy and fish sauce", and I don't fancy garoupa. The "fish sauce" sounded more Thai than Chinese.
Sometimes the Asian dishes don't quite make the transition as well as western dishes, as a result of re-heating (rather than just out of the wok).
They had a choice of 2 mains (there were only 6 seats in F - it was the updated 777).

ok, well in your case I guess it is justified. I sort of remember they offer Hong Kong style dish before, maybe it is the cut back for short haul. I know for one Y only have sandwhiches if it is not meal time for this route.
this is why i always chose CX on TPE-HKG in F -- but now F service on this sector is suspended for most of the flight numbers.
a day trip HKG-TPE-HKG in F is no longer possible, at least not on all days. very sad ... i will especially miss the wine tasting session on those beautiful F flights.
