Experiencing SQ's New Regional Business Class
Here's a very short trip report on SQ's new regional business class seats. SQ's first A330 - 9V-STA - officially started revenue service this morning (16/02/2009). I did a quick turnaround trip to CGK to try out the new seats. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any.
9V-STA (MSN:978) at F54 (T2 SIN) taking me to CGK and back.
New Regional J Cabin
Y Cabin (Seats similar to 388/77W)
Very comfortable new seats! Looks like modified Spacebeds but very much better.
Note that there isn't a side compartment as shown in the initial mock up shots.
Seat belts - those who drive the new generation of Merc will find this all too familiar.
Privacy Screen
Customary leg shot
Storage for water bottles
2 Storage cabinets with secure locks
Locked
Unlocked
Coat hook
Seat Control Panel - 4 preset modes. You have to press and hold to get to that position. It isn't one touch.
Seat fully reclined - more comfortable than Spacebed despite having the same recline angle. No lumpy contours, just soft leather.
Not large feet friendly but still more room than the Spacebed
Inseat reading light (Off)
Inseat reading light (On)
Notice that the No smoking sign has been relocated.
There's no space for the headsets!
Notice anything wrong?
IFE Remote (Similar to 388/77W)
15.4" Screen
Connection port for iPod
Light Meal in J - BTC Slipper Lobster Thermidor
Light Meal in Y

Might be worth the upgrade to J when I am flying PEN-SIN later this year, those seats look incredible for a purpose-built regional product.
Thanks for the photos!

Thanks!
One of the best looking SQ liveried planes.
Most welcomed. Hope you get to try them out later in the year and share your thoughts with the rest of the FTers.
Think it's about 6'2". Didn't feel the wedgie effect on the new seats. ^

Really interesting report.
Glad to see they finally replaced those pink napkins and changed the plates to the new 380/77W standards.
Just wondering is there a bulk head row on this plane where your feet will not be enclosed by the seat in front?

Considering that SQ's regional routes covers destinations up to 8 hrs, they had better up the product with all the competitors playing catch up.

I think it would be great trip reports. I am really like it on A330 aircraft. it's look gorgeous aircraft. Is that brand new Business Class? So which route is already revenue first flight coming from SIN-PER or etc. I am not sure which specific route is already existing service on operate A330 aircraft.

Flew on it today SIN-KUL SQ108. Seat 11C. I like the foot space in front row, even though there aren't the same storage options as other rows. Overhead bin 11A/C is full of oxygen equipment, so not for pax use (even FA had to open it to see what was in there!). Put stuff in OHB above 11D, at least there are middle OHBs.
Didn't have time to fiddle with anything, but managed to lose seat belt buckle down one side (easy to pull out as attached to belt) and spoon down the other in the gaps between seat and arm rest. It took two of us (FA and me) to get the spoon out!
