Post Photo Report: NH F NRT-ORD 777-300 May 2008

Here is a very quick photo report on NH F. I am surprised that a quick search here turns up no other picture report of NH's new F, only a written report over 2 years ago with no pictures. If this is the first photo report of NH new F on FT, then I am honored. Enjoy!

Tokyo, Japan - the traditional side

Asakusa area of Tokyo - view of the tower

Temple in Asakusa

ANA First Class Lounge NRT - Satellite #5

ANA First Class Lounge NRT - Food

Views from the ANA First Class Lounge NRT

ANA New First Class Seat on 777-300

ANA First Class Menu Box and Hot Towel Service

Amuse Bouche - Breadsticks, abalone, sweet fruit tart and ham, creatively presented

Caviar Service - Oscietra Malossal Caviar with Krug, a rarety these days, even among airlines still serving caviar in First Class, the best caviar I had in this RTW

Zensai - Salt-boiled prawn, salt-cured soft roe of sea bream and grilled pike conger eel galatine, baked oyster, fried baby sardine terrine and sansho-peppered beef ragout

Nimonwan - Greenling fish and vegetables in clear soup

Otsukuri - Kelp-cured flatfish sashimi

Kobachi - Tender conger eel and eggplant simmered in light soy sauce
Shusai - Sake steamed Setouchi sea bream and spring wild vegetables with seafood broth
Sunomono - Lightly vinegared shad fish and salt-boiled octopus with mustard miso sauce
Miso soup with seaweed and clams and rice

Premium rose sorbet

Cherry blossom cake with fresh cherries jubilee

Wagashi - White azuki bean and green tea jelly

Gokyo sake - Daiginjo Kintaigokyo from Yamaguchi Prefecture

View of the First Class cabin, usually full but not today

Snack - Salt-cured sea urchin eggs and calamari with ink

Light Meal - Japanese tea poured over rice, garnished with sea bream sashimi

Light Meal - Steamed red tilefish filled in cherry-perfumed rice cakes

Breakfast - Rape blossoms marinated in light mustard sauce, pink salmon trout simmered in special soy sauce, creamy rice porridge, Natto, dried seaweed, miso soup and pickles

Overall, this is probably the best flight ever. The service was excellent and genuine, the food is extensive as there are still items I have not listed from the menu and the seat was very comfortable for working and sleeping.

Thanks for the great report! It's wonderful to let the pictures do the talking, I think..............much better than a lot of text without the visuals.

We just did NRT-NYC a month ago and had the exact same menu items - they had a very nice shrimp-mousse-ball like creation that was excellent. Did you enjoy the pickled uni in the little round ceramic container (served with the sashimi)? It was pretty salty but good!
They had a dessert of a warm apple tart that was excellent too. My partner had 2 servings of that cherry cake!

Guava,

Here is a thread from Oct. '03 with my report linked in it in post #4. Full NH vs. LH in First report. I love your report too and I mention my comparison t add to what you have said and shown.

Note that my lounge comments are now well out of date. Since then ANA only got better. Amazing airline.

Enjoy........

Mike

I'd have to agree with that! Thanks for taking the time to post the report. It brought back some great memories of my NRT-IAD F trip.

I did try to the pickled soft roe but didn't like it. It went beyond my ability to handle the exotic... The creativity is appreciated is nonetheless, I enjoyed trying foods unfamiliar to me.

Thanks for the nice comparison report, I remember now. Incidentally, I flew LH from FRA to NRT in F and they now have a Japaense menu, which must also be a new addition since you flew them. I will post a photo report on LH and see what you think.

Sam,

When are you going to take the courage to try some exotic Japanese food?

Guava, how did you manage to get NH F award? I've been checking daily since January and still nothing

Excellent pictures, thanks for posting! NH F is one of those holy places for those of us that are looking for it via an award, so thanks for showing us what's on the other side of the curtain!

Bliss, it wasn't award. We paid for it, 2 seats in F - Full Fare, no discount whatsoever. F class with NH yields as much as 625% of the mileage with BD*G, which suffice to say, can be used to pay for other expensive travel.

I am sold on NH, trust me. I don't know if I can travel with any other carrier accross the Pacific now. From this point forward, it would likely be NH, both ways, not even SQ, no others...
