Great trip report! Can you clarify what, if any, pre-clearance do you have to get from the government before you go visit? Can anybody book a flight and go as a tourist now? I thought in years past you needed clearance from perhaps the Dept. of Treasury, but I may be mistaken.

Fantastic pictures once again! Looks like Vinales is a decent place to go, I had read mixed reviews on whether it's worth going out there or not. I'll have to add it to the list for next time. You should have considered Trinidad as well, or maybe for your next time in Cuba. Pretty easy to get to from Cienfuegos.
Also, the Jetblue plane in FLL is actually an A321.

. From what I can gather, as long as you suit one of the 12 categories, pre-clearance is not required:
Individuals who meet the regulatory conditions of the general license they seek to travel under do not need to apply for an additional license from OFAC to travel to Cuba
I have read that they have never prosecuted any US citizen for visiting Cuba as a tourist, so don't think it is really enforced at the moment.

. I had low expectations for Vinales, and was just happy to go for a cruise in a classic car and see the countryside. It was a very enjoyable day though, and really glad I went.Oops about the A321, I must have been too sleepy to notice the extra seats

They were two girls from the East Coast but now living in NYC, and had come down to Cuba for the weekend. There was another couple from the US in the other car who had come down for the weekend too. Havana seemed to be a good option for a quick getaway from the US.
