A Journey with Jetstar and KLM + trip to Genting

Hello friends!!!

Here is my 4th report on Flyertalk. As usual, please apologize my bad English, and there will be more photos than words.

The journey was done on January 18-20, 2017. Both Jetstar and KLM offer promos with cheap prices. I successfully bought a Jetstar Jakarta-Singapore ticket for only IDR 340.000 (around USD 27, same price with Jakarta-Yogyakarta route and cheaper than Jakarta-Denpasar), while the price of KLM ticket on the Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta sector was starting from IDR 580.000 (around USD 45).

*I even got cheaper price of KLM ticket on the next month, due to falling Malaysian Ringgit values.

After buying the tickets, I arranged my trip plan. Then I inserted Genting Highland, a megacomplex of hotel (world's largest hotel by the Guiness World Records), theme park, shopping centre, and casino. Yes, the only legal place for gambling in Malaysia is there. It was located about 20km from Kuala Lumpur.

Here are parts of the report:
Part 1: Jakarta-Singapore by Jetstar (Airbus A320)
Part 2: Short city tour in Singapore + Singapore-KL overland by bus
Part 3: KL to Genting + 1st day in Genting
Part 4: 2nd day in Genting + Way back to KL
Part 5: KL-Jakarta by KLM (Boeing 777-300ER)

Jakarta-Singapore by Jetstar (Airbus A320)

I arrived on the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Terminal 2D at 6.30 a.m., around 2.5 hours before boarding.

The LCD TV displaying flights, including my flight, Jetstar 3K202 to Singapore. There were also Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and others ready for boarding.

The Qatar Airways' check in counter filled with umrah pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

Jetstar's counter. Actually I had done the online check in, but Jetstar needed to verify travel documents (passport, visa, etc) of all passengers. Then they gave me the new boarding pass. So the pass which I had printed at home before was useless.

From the check in counter, I proceed to immigration counter, then the authorities stamped my passport.

While walking to the boarding gate, there was an Airbus A330 of Lion Air seen outside the window, ready for departure to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

An Emirates fleet waiting for boarding to Dubai.

Garuda's A330.

Gate D4, the boarding gate of Jetstar 3K202, but still not shown on the LCD. Yeah, I was too early to reach the gate, more than 90 minutes before departure.

While waiting for boarding, I took some sights outside the window.

Cathay Pacific stowed before flying to Hong Kong.

AirAsia and Thai Lion Air (a subsidiary of Lion Air, the Indonesian largest airline)

Singapore Airlines preparing to take off.

Then the Jetstar with reg code 9V-JSM arrived from Singapore.

Time for boarding. We were greeted by cabin crews, consisting of a Singaporean steward and 2 stewardess, from Hong Kong and Japan.

The seats. Personally for me the Jetstar's seats were more comfortable than the AirAsia's.

All passengers have embarked, then cabin crews started the safety instructions. As usual, the congestion of Soekarno-Hatta Airport's air traffic made us have to wait around 15 minutes to take-off.

At 9.45 a.m. (UTC+7) the aircraft started to fly smoothly without any turbulences. After the seat-belt sign switched off, I inspected the toilet. Clean and well-maintained.

I also checked anything inside the seat pocket.
The safety card.

Here you could buy the Starhub SIM card on board, but they offered only the SGD 32 card (not suitable for anyone staying in Singapore less than 7 days), while you could buy the SIM card in Singaporean local stores starting from SGD 7.

The meals menu, with also expensive prices. SGD 12 for a chicken rice? You could buy a large portion of Indian briyani rice with muttons in Little India at the same price.

The Jetstar Magazine (without any unique titles like AirAsia's "3Sixty" or Garuda's "Colours"), full with Chinese New Year attributes. Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

All flight routes of Jetstar and its subsidiaries shown on the magazine.

Flight schedules also displayed.

Finally the 9V-JSM aircraft landed in Changi Airport at 12.00 p.m. (UTC+8). Sadly, the situation was not suitable for me to take the last picture of the aircraft.

Passengers then proceed to a security check before immigration. But before that, I took some snapshots.

The Airbus A350-900 of Singapore Airlines. One of my dream.

Indonesian AirAsia (QZ) with "WOW" livery.

Air Zimbabwe.

Airbus A350-900 of Thai Airways, and a Jetstar at its right side.

Cathay Pacific B-KPI. Their 777-300ERs are rarely seen in Jakarta.

The airport's Terminal 1.

Then I proceed to the immigration counter without long queues. From there, I reached the baggage belt.

It was time to leave the airport, but I had to reach the Terminal 3 by people mover because the MRT station was there.

Terminal 3, the newest terminal of the airport. More than 50% of Singapore Airlines' flight, especially to Europe and USA, boarded from here.

As a Pokemon Go player, I was very amused to see a huge Pikachu here, with decorations for upcoming Chinese New Year (a widely celebrated festival in a Chinese-majority Singapore).

Way to the MRT station.

OK, here are the story of PART 1.

Short city tour in Singapore + Singapore-KL overland by bus

The MRT train I hop from Changi Airport arrived at Bugis Station.

Bugis Street, one of business hubs in Singapore

Actually I came here to eat Bak Kut Teh in Rochor Centre. But after reaching there, I realized that all stores and kiosks there have been closed.

Then I decided to walk to Little India. Here I bought a plate of Indian briyani rice with fried fish and boiled egg. The portion was so large, enough for 2 people.

Then I took the city bus to Marina Bay Sands, an entertainment complex with unique building design, containing hotel, shopping mall, restaurants, and casino (1 of 2 legal casinos in Singapore, the other is in Resort World Sentosa). The rooftop was resembling a boat with one of world's highest-located swimming pool.

Gardens By The Bay, a futuristic garden located behind the MBS.

Then I took another city bus to Orchard Road, a popular tourist spot with famous shopping centres (Ngee Ann City, Lucky Plaza, ION, Tangs, etc)

I went inside the Ngee Ann City and found some interesting books in Kinokuniya, a Japan-based book store. Actually there were also their branches in Jakarta, but Orchard Road's Kinokuniya had more collections.

Then I took 30 minutes break and bought a local-style ice cream at a stall in Orchard Road. The ice cream was served with a slice of bread.

From Orchard Road, I once again took a bus. This time I went to Clarke Quay. Here I had my dinner: famous Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, with a long queue to be served. Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese-style pork ribs soup.

Close to it was Chinatown are, a center of Chinese society in Singapore. There was a giant rooster statue welcoming the "Year of Rooster" according to Chinese lunar calendar.

Returning to Clarke Quay. Here we could see a riverside area filled with bars and restaurant.

Then I took another city bus to Golden Mile Complex. From there I would hop the bus to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Golden Mile Complex was a centre of inter-city (or most exactly, "inter-country") bus departing from Singapore, and also a centre of Singapore's Thai community.

The bus departed from Golden Mile Complex at 10.50 p.m. After around 40 minutes, we reached Tuas Immigration Checkpoint (Singaporean side), then crossed the Malaysia-Singapore 2nd Link and reached the Malaysian side checkpoint, Sultan Abu Bakar Immigration Complex. After the immigration check completed, we boarded the bus again and I slept peacefully until arriving in Kuala Lumpur.

KL to Genting + 1st day in Genting

Our bus from Singapore finally arrived in front of Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur, at arround 04.10 a.m. As this was still early morning, I decided to drink a cup of tea at a local stall.

Then the sun rose. Time to catch the bus to Genting Highland. I walked to Pudu Sentral. It was formerly Kuala Lumpur's largest intercity bus terminal, but since 2012 majority of intercity bus left this terminal and moved to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in southern side of Kuala Lumpur. Today it's the departure point of buses to Genting Highland and Seremban.

I reached here at 7.40 a.m., but the bus would depart at 9.00 a.m. There were still more than 1 hour, so I decided to have my breakfast.

Time for departure to Genting Highland.

Then the bus faced an usual traffic jam in KL's highways.

Petronas Twin Tower and KL Tower could be seen.

Way to Genting Highland.

Our bus stopped at the Awana Skyway (cable car) Station, then we continued our journey with cable car.

While inside the cable car, we could see a beautiful scenery outside. I felt like above the clouds.

Before reaching the First World Hotel, we could see ongoing projects of the area. I read some news that there would be a Fox Studio amusement park here.

Our cable car reached its final destination. But there was still long way to our hotel.

The hotel's self-check in counters.

The hotel currently holds world's largest hotel record by Guiness.

My room. I got the cheapest fare for only MYR 50 (around USD 12).

Here I slept for some hours and did some of my businesses. At night, I left my room and played some games at the casino, where I won MYR 100 (around USD 24). Not bad.

More photos will be posted on the next part.

2nd day in Genting + Way back to KL

My second day, also my last day, in Genting Highland. Here are some snapshots of it.

The beautiful scenery seen from the hotel.

First World Plaza, centre of shopping outlets and indoor games.

Casino, only the outside photo. Photography was prohibited inside.

A stall selling snacks. One of them was unique: the FRIED DURIAN. Waooowwww.

Time to leave Genting Highland. I hop the cable car again to the Awana Station.

Was this a "heaven"?

From the Awana station, I took the express bus to Gombak LRT station, where from there I would board the Kelana Jaya Line LRT train to Petronas Twin Tower.

Kelana Jaya Line LRT train. Its final destination was Putra Heights, but I only boarded the train until KLCC station in the underground of Petronas Twin Tower.

Petronas Twin Towers, world's highest twin towers, with Suria KLCC shopping complex in its lowest floors.

A large park behind the towers.

From there I hop the free GO-KL bus to Bukit Bintang, a famous shopping area.

Then I walked to Restoran Pau Kee, a restaurant offering famous "Hor Fun". "Hor Fun" is a Cantonese-style rice noodle. Delicious.

After lunch, I hop the monorail train to KL Sentral station, where I would take the bus from there to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

KL Sentral, KL's main transport hub, containing stations of KTM Commuter, Kelana Jaya Line LRT, KLIA Express/Transit Train, and buses to KLIA and Genting Highland.

Continued to next part.

KL-Jakarta by KLM (Boeing 777-300ER)

From KL Sentral, I boarded an express bus to the airport. It took around 50 minute to reach the airport, without any traffic jam.

KLIA Departure Hall.

KLM check-in counter. I had my check-in process done here.

Then I got the powerful pass to fly. I didn't know why they printed the boarding pass on a Malaysia Airlines' card.

From the check in counter, I proceed to the immigration counter. The immigration check was simple without any cards to be filled, only a fingerprint scan.

Then after the immigration check, as usual we were welcomed by these unique jet miniatures.

At that time, we were still in the main terminal, while our boarding gate was located in the satellite terminal. To reach there, we had to hop the people mover.

While in the people mover, there were nice views outside.
Etihad and Saudia aircrafts.

The Malaysia Airlines' area.

Arriving in satellite terminal.

Then I proceed to gate C3, our boarding gate.

At the left side was gate C1, boarding gate of Saudia to Jeddah.

After a tight security check, I and other passengers entered the waiting hall of the gate.

Our aircraft ready for departure. The registration code was PH-BVC (National Park Sian Ka'an), with "KLM Asia" livery. Personally I don't like this livery, as it lose its "precious" crown.

Boarding process started. Time to enter the aircraft.

My seat, on the 1st row of the economy class area, with very wide space. I was very lucky to get this row.

My seat was at the aisle side. At my right side was a Dutch couple. Based on my simple observation, majority of the passengers were Dutch and Indonesian. Not too many Malaysians. I also saw a lady holding Peruvian passport, really far.

All passengers had boarded, and the safety video with unique animation cards started.

Without any queues and turbulences, the aircraft flew smoothly to the sky at 5.20 p.m. (GMT+8). Around 10 minutes after that, the seat-belt signs were turned off, and I went to the toilet. Very clean toilet.

Cabin situation.

Back to my seat. I checked the safety cards, magazines, and other stuffs inside the pocket.

An overview of their newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the magazine.

Then the cabin crews started distributing the headphone. As usual, don't have high expectation of its quality.

Exploring the IFE, but as usual, I wasn't interested in movies or TV series, so I put my own flash drive to the IFE.

Meals menu on the IFE screen. Unfortunately it could not be used on this short-distance flight.

Then a cabin crew came to our seat and served the snack. I also requested a cup of sparkling water for my drink.

I then enjoyed the music from IFE. The flight was smooth, without bad weather conditions and turbulences. A Dutch lady at my right side was busy with her fiction book, while her couple slept peacefully.

Finally the aircraft landed safely and smoothly in Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 6.10 p.m. (GMT+7).

Before leaving the aircraft, I took some final snapshots of the cabin.

Business class.

The aircraft was parked together with B777-300ER of Turkish Airlines, ready for departure to Istanbul.

Then I proceed to immigration counter, and after that, I passed through baggage claim area. I didn't check any baggage so I didn't have anything to put here.

After that, I left the terminal building and proceed to the bus station to catch the bus to Gambir train station.

The traffic was not bad. I reached Gambir Station after 30 minutes from the airport. Then I walked to my campus to meet my friends. There were many assignments from my lecturers to be done.

OK, that's my report. Any feedbacks and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks for reading. Terima kasih. Xie xie. Kamsa Hamnida.
