Menus from African airlines

Trip reports from African airlines do not feature very often in this forum. Since I found this website a few weeks ago, I have worked my way through all the reports, including the archives and, with the exception of a few reports on South African Airways, one on a Kenya Airways flight and a number of flights to or from the continent, there's very little. I would love to read of some experiences of trips on some of the African-based companies.

As a collector of airline menus (and being a bit of a closet "foodie"), I am also fascinated by what airlines serve their captive audience. I have raked through my files and have found two Ethiopian Airlines Business Class menus dating from 1989/1990, which I would like to share. I have never flown on this company, but colleagues have, and some say it is (or was) one of the best in Africa.

Addis Ababa-Nairobi

Light Meal

Assorted Cold Cauts
Pear Belle Helene

Nairobi-Kinshasa

Luncheon

Selected Hot Hors d'oeuvres

Fillet Steak in Madeira Sauce with Cauliflower and Carrots or
Chicken Flakes with Indian Herbs with Mississippi Rice and Vichy Carrots or
Nile Perch Provencal Style with Risi Bisi

Seasonal Salad

Cheese and Crackers
Chocolate Mousse

Kinshasa-Lome

Cocktails and Canapes

----------------------------------------

Abidjan-Lagos

Snack

Sandwiches
Rum Pastry

Lagos-Brazzaville

Dinner

Selected Hors d'oeuvres

Veal Medallions with Green Beans and Boulangere Potatoes or
Chicken with Tarragon Sauce with Buttered Rice and Vichy Carrots

Seasonal Salad

Cheese and Crackers
Tropical Bavaroise

Brazzaville-Nairobi

Cocktails and Canapes

Nairobi-Addis Ababa

Breakfast

Fresh Fruit Salad

Omelette with Fine Herbs ++ Mushroom Quiche ++ Stuffed Tomatoes

Brioches ++ Bread Rolls ++ Preserves

Finally, I have a mystery menu card sent to me by a colleague which has a Business Class meal written in English, French and Portuguese. On the cover there is an attractive design of African wildlife, but no clue as to the route or airline. Does anyone have a clue? English seems to be the first language of this airline - there are a couple of small errors in the French and Portuguese.

Main Meal

Fresh Seasonal Salad

Filet Mignon with a Duet of Mushrooms and Charon Sauce, served with Seasonal Vegetables or
Fillet of Poached Salmon with Capers and Lemon Butter Sauce, served with Seasonal Vegetables

Ice Cream

Cheese and Biscuits with Nuts

Coffee or Tea

Am hoping for some reactions!

Thanks for sharing this. It's always intriguing to learn about other "less known obscure" carriers in the world.
