Am I right in thinking at MLE planes taxi on the runway and then do a 180 at the end for both take off and after landing?
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

You're absolutely right, the planes do a big U-ey at the end of the runway. I was quite surprised at how busy that little airport actually is.

Glad you liked the TR, I know what you mean, I'd go back any day. Our friends who recommended it already booked their next trip to the Maldives. The photos we sent them while there was too much to resist. The Hyatt looks amazing by the way.

Any idea why no nuts were served on the last flight? Just curious.

Well, when we boarded the plane a woman in Economy was standing virtually in the door having a very heated conversation with one of the staff about how she didn't know that there will be nuts on board and that she is severely allergic. She demanded that no nuts must be served in the entire plane.

Not at all. These baby sharks use the shallow water as a nursery, but mind their own business. They were only about 60cm long and quite scared of people.

A "lekker" report to read, great photos and information. In a few weeks I will do a J return on QR to Bangkok with a side trip to Aus for the World Cup, cannot wait to try the 787 and the 380 in buisness. Thanks again for a great read.

Ahh, Thailand...love it there. It's a pity Thai Air doesn't fly to ZA any longer, but QR J isn't the worst compromise. Enjoy your trip(s), you won't be disappointed with their new planes.

Thank you for a fantastic trip report. It so happens that we want to fly this exact airline (ex Jnb) to this exact destination. It was very helpful and a great read. Thank you.

Well, I'm glad I could be of assistance! Have you decided on a resort yet?

No not yet.... We've been browsing Tripadvisor and other sources looking for the best places to go. I think you emphasized the importance of an all inclusive package so we'll definitely look into that.

Hi

Really loved your trip report - makes me hanker for these beautiful islands even more.

I have flown into MLE around 45 times now - yet every time those turquoise lagoons and palm trees come in to view it sends a chill up my spine and the Robinson Crusoe in me comes to the fore.

Loved your report on LUX* - it is a stunning island and was my first visit 27 years ago when it was Ari Beach.

I want to be back there now !

Excellent report and pictures.

The second to last resort shown from the air on your flight from DOH-MLE is the Anantara.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

I know what you mean, it is really quite something when you see the islands appear out of the middle of the ocean.

It was really a special holiday and I'm afraid the Maldives have spoiled me. I don't know if any other beach holiday will ever compare (but I'll try).

Hope to go back there soon though...
