Thanks! I was pretty proud of that line

Glad you enjoyed that. But as to your question, because I'm an American. We put ice in everything. Hell, we like our ice on the rocks! I also had a friend years ago who told me it was the proper way to do it because it unlocked the flavors of scotch, but that's probably B.S.

I do like my whiskey neat but my whisky with ice!

Gotta say I prefer my scotch on the rocks as well. If there's no ice, then I'll use a splash of cold water (or if it's my first time tasting a scotch, as I feel it doesn't alter the drink as much). Like CMK10 I've been told that it helps the flavor bloom from just about every scotch drinker I know, but I'm willing to accept that it might be BS.

Also, yes, we Americans love ice.

Wow ! What a TR ! Thoroughly impressed with the efforts spent, the writing and the photos are just top notch.

Really amazed you can finish the TR right after the trip. Inspire me to not procrastinate on writing TRs anymore !

a splash of water can certainly help bring out the flavours , which I will do with certain whiskies

This is a great trip report.

Wish I could do things like this when I have a few days off...unfortunately I am limited to Asia, which most people would love but I am not a great fan!

Great trip report, CMK10 - thanks for putting so much time into it, was quite the enjoyable read.
Too bad you missed out on the baths, they're great during the winter (was at that bathhouse ~2 weeks ago)

Bravo! Echo all the praise for an enjoyable light hearted trip report.

Budapest is a very under rated city full of surprises.

My favorite explanation of Budapest was from the 20 something guide for a walking tour I took (He was 'used' as a small infant to smuggle in goods by his parents during the border crossing when the country was still under communist rule)

One of the tourists asked him why people in Budapest drink so much?

"Because we are always depressed."

Why is that?

"Because we are ALWAYS on the wrong side of history."

It's true though, poor old Budapest seems to have been captured or flattened in every possible war and Hungary in general hasn't had the easiest time.

Oh no doubt. Hell, the Russians were there from 1944 to 1990. Then before that you had the Austrians and the Turks and seemingly everyone else.
