EK is one of several carriers operating fifth freedom flights on this route - fares also seem to be cheaper than TG and CX. Having tried EK once before (in Y class) on another fifth freedom route (SYD-CHC) I thought I would go with them again. This would be my third flight on an A380 (after QF and LH). I chose seat 11K (window) for the out and inbound segments.
The lounge is ‘open air style’ but you couldn’t hear too much noise from the gate areas below. The food and service were very good and the lounge was a about ½ full. After a pre-departure meal, it was time to head to the gate.
Pre-departure meal
Boarding was orderly and commenced on time. The J cabin was about a 1/3 full.
After the meal service, I made a trip to the bar area.
Summary and conclusion: Overall an uneventful flight with EK’s very good hard and soft product.

When I checked in I was informed the flight would be three hours late as there was some sort of mechanical issue leaving Dubai. Luckily I did not have a connection later that day out of HKG.
Unlike in HKG, the lounge is not ‘open air style’ but in an enclosed area with a view of a courtyard below. The food was very good and the lounge was almost empty.
Pre-departure meal
After a pre-departure meal and about five hours later it was time to head to the gate for a delayed departure.
Pre-departure refreshment
The flight was further delayed as three passengers were a no show and their luggage had to be unloaded.
Time for meal service
Main course: beef
Summary and conclusion: Once again EK has a very good hard and soft product but I would deduct marks for this flight due to the initial delay.

Thanks for the report! I travelled on this exact route a year ago, exact same seat as you 11K. I did notice that the window panels are covered in faux wood, is that a new thing with EK?
