Around the World in 40 Days for 40 Years

Yeah, I admit it...for now this is going to stand as a bit of a tease. But in just about three months I'm off for the trip of a lifetime. I've spent most of the last year planning it, but now...95% of the tickets are purchased, hotels are booked, and this is really happening!

First, anyone interested may want to check out my previous reports:

London to Iran and Afghanistan in a mix of C, F, and LCCs

Above the Arctic Circle with UA/CO/LH and SK in whY, C, and F

I figure you only turn 40 once, so it's worth doing right. In that line of thinking, it's time to take 40 days, and go 40,000 miles around the world for 40 years! I'll be listing the actual planned segments of the trip report in this post soon, but for now I'll leave a snapshot of the planned route:

Since this is just about two-three months away now, any favourites along the route, advice, sites, etc, are more than welcome! This will also accomplish putting me over 100 countries visited by a few (it'll likely be either Marshall Islands, FS Micronesia, Palau, or Zambia that gets the #100 honours) as well as being my first trip all the way around the world. It'll also mark my first ever trip over two weeks by a long shot!

Part I - DCA to Aruba on Continental, the Westin Aruba, and Wacky Wahoo's
Part II - Tour of Aruba with Madi
Part III - Yemanja Restaurant, Aruba
Part IV - Aruba (AUA) to Bonaire (BON) on Tiara Air (3P)
Part V - Bonaire, Special Municipality of the Netherlands
Part VI - Bonaire to Curacao on Insel Air, and the Hilton Curacao
Part VII - Exploring Curaao
Part VIII - Curaao to Port-of-Spain, Hilton Port-of-Spain, and dinner in Trinidad
Part IX - Maracas Bay, Trinidad and flight to Caracas, Venezuela
Part X - Touring Bogot, Colombia and flight to Panama City, Panama
Part XI - Panam City, Panam, and Panam Canal Tour
Part XII - Panam to Honolulu via Newark and Houston, and first day in Hawaii
Part XIII - Second day in Hawaii - warning no airline/flight content
Part XIV - Continental Island Hopper from Honolulu to Guam with 4 Stops
Part XV - Guam, and Continental Guam to Palau
Part XI - Day in Palau - lots of snorkeling pics
Part XII - Palau to Tokyo, and day in Tokyo
Part XIII - Tokyo to Bangkok, and day in Bangkok
Part XIV - Bangkok to Manila, and day in Manila
Part XV - Manila to Livingstone, Zambia
Part XVI - Livingstone, Zambia to Chobe Marina Lodge, Botswana and River Safari
Part XVII - Safari in Botswana and Namibia
Part XVIII - Safari, and Afternoon in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Part XIX - Victoria Falls Bungee Jump
Part XX - Victoria Falls and the Boma Restaurant
Part XXI - Whitewater Rafting the Zambezi and Sunset Cruise
Part XXII - Safari (and a kill!), and driving to Lesotho
Part XXIII - Lesotho, and drive to Ladysmith, South Africa
Part XXIV - Ladysmith, South Africa to Swaziland
Part XXV - Swaziland to Mozambique
Part XXVI - Day in Maputo, Mozambique
Part XXVII - Maputo, Mozambique to Lisbon, Portugal
Part XXVIII - End of Trip - Lisbon to Washington via London on TAP and United

Looks Epic! If it is the same standard as your other Trip Reports it will be amazing.

Looking forward to reading all about it ^

Drama: State of Emergency declared in Trinidad and Tobago

Well, first post on this trip is live...and it's shaping up to get interesting before the trip has even started!

Just a few days now until the trip kicks off, and already one of our destinations for the first week is experiencing major drama, seems a State of Emergency has been declared in Trinidad and Tobago - not too sure it's the best time to be wandering the streets there!

Must investigate alternate routes from Curaao to Caracas!

Looks like a great itinerary! If you are stopping over in Pohnpei, be sure to get out to the Nan Madol ruins.

Well if those rebels would be a bit more efficient at quieting things down, I'm still considering adding it at the end

Getting over 100 countries without previously having a trip longer than 2 weeks is impressive.

I turn 40 in November and will be going to West Africa but won't break the 100 mark quite yet.
