Sri Lanka on a budget [Lots of pics]

Hi all. This is my first post on FlyerTalk although I've been lurking around for a couple of months and love reading the trip reports here.

Last month a group of friends and I traveled to Sri Lanka for leisure. We did it on a budget and sadly there wasn't any premium travel involved. I thought that it might be a good idea to share our experience on FT.

Sri Lanka Trip [10 - 18 Jun 2010]

Part I: Pre-Trip [Singapore, 10 Jun 2010]
Part II: The Long Shuttle [Singapore - Kuala Lumpur, 10 Jun 2010]
Part III: AK255 [KUL - CMB, 11 Jun 2010]
Part IV: A Slice of Cultural Triangle [CMB - Dambulla, 11 June 2010]
Part V: Temples [Dambulla - Kandy, 12 Jun 2010]
Part VI: Into the Hills [Kandy - Haputale, 13 Jun 2010]
Part VII: Trekking to World’s End [Horton's Plains National Park, 14 Jun 2010]
Part VIII: Retracing the steps of Sir Thomas Lipton [Lipton's Seat & Tea Factory, 15 Jun 2010]
Part IX: Leopard! Leopard! Leopard! [Haputale - Tissa, 16 Jun 2010]
Part X: Will this journey ever end? [Tissa - Negombo, 17 Jun 2010]
Part XI: Goodbye Serendib [CMB - KUL - Singapore, 18 Jun 2010]
Part XII: Epilogue

For those who are only interested in the flight segments, part III and part XI will be of particular interest.

I enjoyed myself in Sri Lanka and highly recommend it as a travel destination.

Hope you all enjoy the trip report and feel free to comment or ask question.

Some of your pictures are outstanding. You have a career as a travel journalist ahead of you. Excellent stuff

Thanks all for liking the trip report.:)

ballogie - Most of the pictures weren't taken by me but by my friends. My photography skill is still a long way behind theirs sadly.

Thanks snod08 :)

We left Dambulla several days before the start of the tournament so didn't get the chance to see any matches. Everyone around Sri Lanka was watching cricket on TV though.

Ah I see. At least you got to enjoy the beauty of the country!

To say the least, cricket is definitely a craze in the sub-continent.

Nice report. And a good reminder why I try to avoid LCCs.

Great read, thanks for taking the time to share your trip. I frankly know very little about Sri Lanka, so really enjoyed seeing the pics of the countryside.
All in all I think you and your friends managed to see alot given your time there.
